MBB at Ga Southern, Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024 A.D., 3 p.m. ET, ESPN+, Hanner Fieldhouse, 9th Circle of Hell, G.A., 30458
The good news is that App State beat Georgia State, extended its winning streak to seven, stayed in first place, went to 18-4 overall and Dustin Kerns had a good birthday. The bad news is that this team has to go to Statesboro.
App's Peach State two-step partner this week, second-place Troy, is leaving Statesboro having mollywhopped the Eagles Thursday night 84-63 behind 13 three-pointers and a 45-32 rebounding edge. And it wasn't that close. Troy led wire to wire.
Last Thursday in Boone, GS clawed, stayed around and it got them a brief lead in the second half. But the Apps closed the door afterward with key guard points. GS shot a lot less 3's than they normally do in that game, going 3 of 14.
The Eagles are 5-5 in the Sun Belt, trying to stay out of the bottom four and avoid that Tuesday first round game. After Boone, they won at ODU by six after trailing most the game. In fact, the Troy and App losses are their only ones in their last five games.
Hanner's always a chore for App State. I seriously doubt App will win by 21 like Troy did. If that happens, wonderful! But expect a nervy affair and for GS to try to shoot more 3's instead of challenging Abson, Spillers and Huntley down low. Plus they really don't like App State.

Troy just destroyed them, hopefully we can to that instead of these heart problem inducing games.

Something that really stood out to me, since I was able to watch the game up close, is the attitude of this team. Every one of those guys is cool through the whole game. They didn't show any frustration when the refs weren't calling fouls. They didn't seem down when their shots weren't falling. They laughed when the PA announcer sped through there names during player introductions. The student section was pretty loud for the first half, and that didn't seem to have any effect.
These guys have ice water running through them, and I think that comes from the coaching, Kerns especially.
My point: while some of us may be having heart palpitations during some of the close games, or at least halves, none of the guys on the court are. They know exactly how good they are, and play (at least last night) with supreme confidence.

They don’t show frustration or complain when the refs don’t make the right call. They accept it and move on. 100% agree it comes straight down from Kerns. This team is so fun to watch and to see what Kerns has built is a breath id fresh air. They have a swagger about them that we haven’t seen in a long time.MrCraig wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 8:38 amSomething that really stood out to me, since I was able to watch the game up close, is the attitude of this team. Now we are gonna need to figure out how to keep DK in Boone. Gonna be a tough task I imagine.App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 10:23 amThey don’t show frustration or complain when the refs don’t make the right call. I believe Frank Young is ready and capable IF Coach Kerns moves on.

Because it's not as far between Atlanta and Statesboro. Typically, 400+ miles trips between games are give Wednesday tipoff, but it's not always the case.

I had assumed we came back to Boone, but guess that's still less than 400.

Are there signs that say "shirt and shoes required" posted at the entrances to Hanner?
Yes, it's the dead of winter...but we are talking about Statesboro.

Ninth Circle of Hell. Instructions clear enough. Clearly playing at Georgia Southern.T-Dog wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 12:18 am
