19-5 is pretty impressive for a team that often struggles to score. Better to have this game now than down the road. Beat Toledo.

If we make the tournament, we will probably win it all because none of those teams have losing records.

The #1 seed in the conference tournament plays at 11:30 in the morning (local time). The 2 seed plays at 7:30 that evening. Maybe that's lipstick on a pig.

No excuses from me. We have had a really good year. There have been glimmers of greatness in most games. BUT other than Auburn and maybe JMU we ain’t beat anyone. This game looked like most of the others, including the wins. We have been one “4 minute offensive drought” from losing many games . Each game is a struggle.Something about the offensive set stinks. I’m unsure, because I’m no basketball analyst, but we have no passing and cutting thru the lane and very few back screens down low. I think we’re probably a really good team in the 19th ranked conference.

If we don't win the tournament, wonder how this loss will affect the NIT invitation situation?

Add in a two hour bus ride to CLT from Boone and whatever time we'd spend sitting around the airport. You're easily looking at a seven or eight hour trip. Kerns said we we're leaving Boone Tuesday morning during his Mountaineer Talk segment. So we got home from a four and half day trip to Ga. in the early hours of Sunday morning then have two days for film study, practice, and school work before leaving again on our longest road trip. That's tough on anyone.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 10:13 pmIt's a 3 hour flight from Charlotte or Hickory to Austin and a 40 minute bus ride (assuming we flew commercial). Hawaii flies longer for every road game and The Atlantic-Pacific Coast Conference will appreciate short flights like this next year....
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Kerns will use this as motivation to not lose during the coming up SB tourney.

I won't be so harsh.
I'd say for one game this team has the higher ceiling than any App team in the past.
It is fair to say that our half court offense isn't dynamic when outside shots aren't falling. The best way to beat this team is to sacrifice rebounding and get back on defense to slow us down.

Ugly, ugly loss. GS was a warning that something was up, and this was it. But the goal remains and very much within reach- win the tournament.

We played like the regular season doesn't matter and the SBC is only a 1 bid league. Felt like watching a mid July MLB baseball game.

Agree with this. Teams hit lulls from time to time. Let’s see how they respond Saturday before hitting the panic button.

Correct. That offensive drought down the stretch was hard to watch. Alot of iso-ball with little to no off ball movement. Texas St was clogging the lane with 2 or 3 guys and leaving 2 outside to flash the perimeter shooters. If you don't have anyone cutting, you make the defense's job super easy. I was very disappointed by that last 7 minutes.pop5app wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 8:03 amNo excuses from me. We have had a really good year. There have been glimmers of greatness in most games. The game sucked, but I saw lethargy that I have only seen one other time this season. Hate to give up that #1 seed, would have been nice to not have to play both Troy and JMU again (plus I would like o see Troy and JMU actually play SMH). Maybe someone beats troy and we win out.

There are at least 13 bad conferences who get automatic qualifiers so that basically leaves 51 spots. Then you take out the legit 19 other conference champs and you are down to 32. There are always 20-25ish power schools who have good resumes and they get in. Now your talking about 7-10 spots that remain. Those always go to either a phenomenal mid major with 29 wins or those crappy 19-11 power schools who people always argue should not get in. It's been fun talking about NET rankings and what ifs but the reality is that we need to play and beat 3 Auburns and go 16-2 in the Belt and someone else needs to pull their weight as well.

We had 4 pretty good wins against Awbern, JMUx2, and UNCW and a chance to go 16-2 in conference. The losses v NIU, TX St and even Oregon State are hurting us. Just cant slip vs. bad teams when you only have 6-7 resume builders on the schedule. We have an opportunity to pick up 2 more solid wins this year against UL and Toledo. If we can get hot and win out we can still get to 25+ wins!Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 2:20 pmThere are at least 13 bad conferences who get automatic qualifiers so that basically leaves 51 spots. 6-1 down the stretch would be great, only two road games remain. I'd say 5-2 in the most likely outcome, which would give us the double bye at worst.

Pretty spot on here. We are good enough to play bad and beat most of the conference. We are good enough to play up and beat a big time opponent. But no game has been "pretty". We haven't controlled the majority of a game in conference play that wasn't Coastal Carolina. I think that is due to our slower style and defensive play. Games will almost always be close until the final 5 minutes. It is a good thing against the good teams but it also keeps bad teams in the game.pop5app wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 8:03 amNo excuses from me. We have had a really good year.
