It's great...But if we don't win the SB tournament we don't make the big dance

This is by no means a dig to anyone who posts these rankings but to me it's like a meaningless pat on the head. Good job little guy but you aren't as good as some 6th place 16-12 power school who is 8-8 in their conference and beat up on a crappy non conference schedule.

And that’s a damn shame. App & JMU (puke) should both be in regardless.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 9:47 amIt's great...But if we don't win the SB tournament we don't make the big dance
Leave them out, to make room for some damn team like Syracuse or whoever with 12-13 losses. It’s ridiculous, and nobody can convince me otherwise.
Don’t give them a chance to screw you, keep winning!

Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
I was looking at the current Lunardi garbage and what is tough every year are the AQ teams who are generally dreadful but win terrible conferences. Then you see teams projected to be in who are sitting at .500 in the conference and have double digit losses. That's exactly why you see the 11 and 12 seeds win on the first day. Those fraudulent power schools with 10-12 losses get seeded way too high and the 25+ win mid major conference champions are legit good and move to the second round. At this point there is zero difference in the Sunbelt number one seed and the 4th as far as at large consideration.appstate24 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:58 amAnd that’s a damn shame. Then just look at the top 25. But then you'll see all the programs that have budgets 10x what ours is, so that one is pointless to me.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:51 amThis is by no means a dig to anyone who posts these rankings but to me it's like a meaningless pat on the head. Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
Syracuse hasn’t made the tournament in 15 years with double digit losses. Sitting at 10 now and not even bubble talk. Now the big 12 or SEC, there’s your sweet spotappstate24 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:58 amAnd that’s a damn shame. Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
I disagree. I do not see this as pointless. It is another mental note for the committee. Will it make a difference. Maybe or maybe not...but every thing helps.
With that said in a loss in conference tourney scenario, we have to at least get to finals and it has to be a really close game.
Personally, I believe the SBC will only get one team in even if we should get more

Last time SBC got an at large was Middle Tennessee. They had a similar record as us but were around #25 in the RPI. We're around #70 in the Net rankings.

Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
We’re getting crushed for the bad losses to NIU Oregon State and Tx St. Also, the 2 NAIA games are missed opportunities to move up. Hope we’re done with those moving forward or just play 1.
Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
We could sneak in the top 25 for selection week if we make it to the finals. (And continue to crush teams)
Finals are on Monday Night, same day rankings come out. Would put us at 28-5
Can’t hurt for seeding if we win it, and at least would be in the conversation if we lose in the finals.

Like it or not, Sun Belt teams are making up their crappy non-conference schedule.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:51 amThis is by no means a dig to anyone who posts these rankings but to me it's like a meaningless pat on the head. Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
Ok… there is a lengthy very recent article from the Athletc with the current selection committee Chair all regarding the at-large selection process. NET is used as a sorting tool……. not the selection vehicle. He said they care a lot about quad 1 wins, and they divide the quad1 wins into 1A and 1B….. A being 1-30 B 31-75….. they care about a winning road record, also head - to - head games. They are aware conferences are gaming the NET system… like the Big 12 is by playing weak OOC schedules like Iowa St with a OOC of 324…… the Chair said if they do that they better beat the top teams in their conference….. we just need to keep the mentality of just win the next game….1-0 baby….. Congratulations to Kerns and staff for a hell of an awesome season….. and Congrats to the team… so proud of you all….heck of a ride!

UVA about to take another blowout loss. I'm biased but we can beat them by 10 at least. If they remain a high seeded tournament team something is wrong.

I realized they were playing Duke inside that hellscape to visiting teams known as Cameron Indoor, but the Hoo’s were plain awful today. Ugly basketball for sure.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 7:57 pmUVA about to take another blowout loss. I'm biased but we can beat them by 10 at least. Watched the game between SMC and Gonzaga and I do believe we could play on the floor with both teams. Just hope we can win the SBC tourney because if we do I think we match up well with a lot of top teams.

Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
No harm, no foul as far as my post is concerned. I completely agree with you concerning the March Madness selection/smoke-filled back-room idiocy. I strongly disagree, however, that it's a "meaningless pat on the head." I've been around for 64 App basketball seasons--my Dad took me to my first game in old Broome-Kirk Gym when I was a high school junior. No Mountaineer basketball team has ever, ever been mentioned next to Gonzaga in any way, shape or form until late last week. It's trivia in one sense but in another it's a big neon branding sign for App State athletic success for a sport other than football and wrestling. That's very new and different. It's going to be seen by high school and juco recruiting prospects and by D-I portal "dwellers" some of whom may for the first time be willing to give our program some serious consideration.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:51 amThis is by no means a dig to anyone who posts these rankings but to me it's like a meaningless pat on the head. It's also another brick in the foundation of that App Basketball Tradition that many think we lack. I've known coaches and players from part or all of seven decades so my understanding of our tradition will differ from that of the average bear.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
Football: 9-5
Basketball: 26-5
Baseball: 9-2. It’s early.
Already 44 wins for the 3 major sports.
This could be a very impressive year if baseball can get near the 30 win total mark.

Re: MENS MID MAJOR TOP 3
I'd asked before what was the best year in our history if you consider combined wins between the 3 sports. That year we made it to the baseball regional in Charlottesville and nearly won it did we win the football championship as well?
