Kevin Cantwell beat Coach K. Our team was talented until injuries took a toll that season.

I was happy to watch NCSU win last night, but I imagine the following internal conversations happened after the game:

NCSU fans - "YES! It took 37 years but we're finally ACC conference champs again and are going to the Dance!"

Coach Keatts - "WHEW! Oh wait...I need to call Mayflower and tell them to hold off on sending that moving truck."
Keatts got an automatic 2-year extension by winning the ACC. Stipulation in his current contract.

Read an article where he gets the 2 year extension added onto his existing 2 years and gets a $400k per year raise. There were also some bonuses, like $100k for winning the tournament and $25k for getting in round of 64.

I wonder how they did the match ups. It does appear that most of them are regional in nature, though some like Princeton-UNLV don't fit the mold. If the match ups were based on seeding, App playing a #1 seed suggests we were one of the last four teams in the tournament. Which begs the question, if all those P6 teams hadn't bailed would we be in the NIT?
The NIT usually does regional matchups early. (Wake/App obviously is selling tickets). If Pitt opts in, it's possible that BC is not in the tournament. LSU 17-15 and Georgia 17-16 get seeds because the SEC is guaranteed two seeds. We may have been left out, but it could have been others first.

Yes, this is correct. Also, looking at the mid major top 25, we are ranked ahead of at least 7-8 of the at large bids. San Francisco, UC Irvine, Cornell, N Texas, etc. Only mid-major ahead of us is Indiana State. Bradley, Princeton and Indiana State are ahead of us as they are hosting.

They were talking on the radio yesterday about how the Semifinals and championship game would be played at MSG but apparently that's not the case. The bracket says Hinkle Field House in Indy. That's a bit of a letdown. So after we beat Wake we are assured to play on the road no matter what? Does any scenario play out that has a game at HCC?

When I first looked at the bracket I wondered if possible too. I was going to ask that question if we beat Wake Forest, which is going to be hard to do.

If we win and Georgia loses to Xavier then one of the other schools would be hosting I would think. It might go out to bid like the FCS brackets do for unseeded games.

After reading on the N.C.A.A. site, they do not mention reseeding so I’d say if Xavier wins, we’d have a home game either 3/26 or 3/27…… 1-0 baby beat Wake!

How so? If Wake is a 1 and Georgia is a 4 then we are theoretically an 8 and Xavier is a 5. They would be the higher seed.

The way the NCAA seeded was only the top 4 in each bracket (overall 16 of 32)…. essentially every one else is the same… unseeded. The reason I said there’s a good chance to play at home, is simply because of our record. Really nobody will know until after the first round games.

Are we sure that is how they viewed this bracket? It sounded like no matter what seed Wake Forest got we were going to play them.

Wake is the #1 in our “corner of the bracket .” Again, the top 16 were seeded, the top four in each of the four corners of the bracket. The “bottom” 16 were not seeded. And the NCAA said that they would utilize regional matchups for the first round.

The phrase the NCAA used was “as close to their area of natural interest as possible.” The do not say anything about 2nd round games other than the dates and the brackets. Does DG know if we win where we play…….. maybe.

As with everything with the NCAA, this is a black box. It does seem to me that neither we nor Xavier are seeded, so if we both win who knows. The one thing, the only thing, I know is that we really need to win tomorrow. Many on here might not want to hear it, but success for us in the NIT and for JMU in the NCAAs would be a start towards improving the Sun Belt's reputation.

Been saying the same thing. We need to win first and foremost but a JMU win does help our league and App State so I am pulling for them as well. One and done by both of us would confirm to everyone the league rep is correct and keep us a one bid league. I noticed that Arkansas State is in the CBI and I am pulling for them as well. The most post season success our league has the better it is for our rep.

Not sure if anyone saw the graphic last night during the NIT that showed 17 schools had declined either bids or let the NCAA know they were interested. Seems to me it suggests that this new format isn't really something many P6 schools are interested in. The old approach likely had more teams wanting to play because it guaranteed regular season champs an opportunity to redeem themselves.

The fact that Virginia made the tournament is a complete joke. That team is asssss.

GO APPS!!
Like I said that Virginia team was asssss. It’s a shame they had to waste a spot on them when there were PLENTY of other deserving teams, us included.

It seems like we go through this every year. A team gets beat and people believe that a spot was wasted on someone that should not be there. Lets play one more game and be done with it. If you are not one of the best 128, you should not be considered. This way all conference and tournament champions would be included.

Yeah it's too easy to criticize the committee after a perceived bad or average team loses early but in the case of Virginia the consensus was that they were really not good and that their lack of any offense was going to get them quickly. Did those guys really think that against better competition UVA was all of a sudden going to regain some semblance of an offense?
