Justin Abson

I've noticed Abson hasn't been playing the last few games. Is he hurt or just a rotation issue? Hope he gets an opportunity to get more time later in the season. He's too good to ride the bench regardless of his NIL deal.

He’s buried on the bench- probably the 4th or 5th big option. Georgia is pretty good down low and he might be a step or two too slow for SEC from what I’ve watched of them. Can’t blame him for taking the money but it’s not looking like a great decision if he wanted to play basketball.

They have an expensive bench.

Their recruiting class panned out better than they expected or anyone really. Playing time he should have stayed it seems - money wise I don't blame him for the chance he had to try - will be interesting to see how things play out and what his next decision is. He is a tad slow for those active big guys in the top 25-40 programs. Hopefully he can work on his feet and progress.

I believe Thomas Wolfe wrote a very fine book about that.

Didn't think for a minute it would be, but it always nice for people to know they are wanted and needed. I guarantee he reads this board everyday! This is my sarcasm font.

Yah I can't begrudge him grabbing the money / taking the opportunity. Hopefully the backers of his NIL deal actually come through.

Kerns believed in Abson early and I have no idea where his heads at on it now, but the team tried to package together an NIL opportunity to retain him. Yah this conversation isn't relevant to this season and the guys who actually ARE here. But if Abson makes another move in the offseason it'd be great to have him back. Oh well.

We talked about him at last week's tailgate.. the consensus was he has a centers game in a P4 Forwards body.

Most P4s his size can also step out and at least hit a mid rage -- most any more can hit the 3 too. Abson isn't going to do that.

He’s a mid-major dominate center playing bench at a power program. He’s not quick enough to beat out a spot on a team with three Spillers.

Spillers is averaging about nine points and ten rebounds a game. They are getting their money’s worth.

Most of our guys that left seem to be doing well, except Abson at this time. Honestly not surprised based on where each went and the fact we had a great team last year. Hate we could not keep a couple of them to make this years team more functional early on. But that is the way of mid-majors in this NIL time period. Really hate it for the coaching staff having to start over. They did an outstanding job (doing their job) and only got to see it work out 1 season - they should have gotten another run to success. Kudos to them - I think they did a good job recovering from that so far. This season will have some struggles but the staff is doing well given what happened.

Unfortunately for him, he’s behind a 1st round pick. A potential 1st round project, and 2 upperclassmen that are pretty good players. Kinda wild Georgia (not know for basketball) will pay $100k for an 12th man.

Basically, an insurance policy if there are injuries.

Kerns’s recruiting pitch should be, come to App and get paid…not by us, but if you do well someone else will pay you

Unfortunately we’re going to see plenty of kids willing to ride the bench if they’re getting paid.

That’s what happens when college sports suddenly turns into professional sports.

I’m sure he wasn’t planning to ride the bench, but getting paid means more now to many of these kids.

Hard to blame them, not their fault that college sports is being destroyed.

Go App!

Spillers came from a really tough situation. Very tough. I don’t begrudge him.
