MBB @ Troy 4:30 pm 1/31

Unread post by NattyBumppo'sRevenge » Fri Jan 30, 2026 3:44 pm

Going to 1st place Troy tomorrow. They are coming off an upset loss to a bad JMU team, so they are beatable. We are currently in 2nd place and 1.5 games behind Troy. We’ve won 4 of our last 5 with the lone loss being a 2 point loss to ODU. Our defense and ugly playing style has kept us in games and we’ve been lucky to have a couple guys, like Tot and Marcus last night, get hot at the right times. As mentioned, we’ve settled in our rotation primarily with 7 players and occasionally minutes sprinkled in for Brim or Clarke. Troy is one of my least favorite teams, I think because of that Opie looking goofball.

If I could wish for one improvement to our offense: Recognize what we’re good at.

Dodd and Banks aren’t particularly good 3-point shooters but they’re all-conference quality at getting to the rim.

Jennings has his moments from beyond 3 but his best asset is that baby jumper from 10 feet. He not bad at getting to the rim, either.

From his low-post spot, Wilson effectively attacks the left side of the basket but needs to put more air under his shots.

Marcus had done an amazing job from 3, but mostly from the top of the key. He’s not nearly as accurate from along the baseline.

Tot? Keep doing what you’re doing. Catch the ball cleanly, square up your feet and rip it.

Moodie is the consummate team player. Just know that you’re about to get fouled when App is in a bonus situation and the ball gets in your hands.

Well said and tbh feels if we can get Wilson + couple guards shooting well in the tournament with this teams defense they’ll be a very tough out.

Not yet at the 10:00 mark and we have already shot 9 threes. Team that shoots 31% from three has no business doing that!

Jennings clutch at the half.
Could not ask for a better half against a first place team.

Did that without Tot scoring. Hopefully he doesn’t miss in the 2nd.

Why do we call timeout after made threes where we have the momentum? Especially when the next dead ball will be a media timeout?

Troy pulls starters. Might be getting a breather before a 12:01 hard practice.
