MBB gets blasted by 28 in Cincy

Coach Capel's squad shot just 29% from the floor and 21% from the 3 point arc this afternoon in a blowout loss to Cincinnati. With his best player suspended until the end of the semester for "academics" and an assault on a female charge; Capel was forced to use walk-on Tom Spagnolo as a starter in the post again. While he did collect 7 boards, Spagnolo shot only 1 of 7 from the floor--14 %. That won't get it done even in a Y league.
Neither will our current 6-6, 6-7, 6-8 front court. We were out-rebounded 47-35 by a tall Cincy team today. There was literally no way to match up with Bearcat bigs...6-9, 6-10 and 7-1.
Which brings up another couple of sore spots; (1) soph Rantavious Gilbert did not play--placing him squarely on the bench where he spent the heavy majority of last season. He's looking more and more like a wasted scholarship. And (2) Capel's best freshman continues to be suspended on an underage alcohol consumption charge. Where is the oversight our players should be getting from the coaching staff?
It appears to me that Capel has depended/is depending entirely too much on washouts from other universities and on recruits from a certain Guilford County military school. How's that working out for him?
Ok, yes, I'm piling on, but like a lot of others, I'm "sick and tired of being sick and tired" of ASU's continued failures on the basketball court. I broke in to ASU basketball fandom with Wayne Duncan and Jim Richardson, Bob Light's terrific bookend forwards (both ASU Hall of Famers) from the mid-60s. I've been a fan since the first game I attended in Broome-Kirk Gym. I'll be a fan until my last days on this planet--but I'd be a lot happier fan with a better brand of Appalachian BB to hang my hat on. Methinks I am not alone.
