I don't love it either, but I could give App a pass if it were just LMC. But FOUR D2 games in one season almost defies belief.

I know it's tough to get good opponents to come to Boone, but surely we can do better than that. When I was a student in the late '90s, we had home games vs. Georgia and a top 25 UNCC team, and Varsity Gym was jam-packed and loud as hell for both.

Capel is doing anything he can to get a win.

The same reason the Heels scheduled Belmont, to have a guaranteed win :D

I believe Watauga and Wilkes Central have openings.

I went over the history of playing sub-D1's and the myths of not getting big-name schools last year.

IMO, there's no reason to play any sub-D1 during the season. There's the preseason for that.

Thanks, that's a good, informative rundown. I believe the supposed inconvenience of traveling to Boone used to be one of the excuses we heard, but it can't be THAT hard, especially for schools within driving distance.

To follow up on your thoughts on attendance and scheduling: When I got to school, I knew nothing about ASU basketball (and they had been terrible for a while at that time). What got me introduced was, I heard about the UNCC game I mentioned in my previous post and thought, "Hey, a top 25 team is on campus. Might as well go check that out."

When I got there, I signed up for the student section (then known as "Mountaineer Maniacs") and got my free t-shirt. The gym was packed and loud, and we spent the evening trading taunts with the UNCC section across the way. App pulled the upset, and I was hooked.

You won't always win those games, of course, but that's the kind of experience that makes people want to come back. And you just aren't going to get that playing Lees McCrae.

Even they would be tough completion for this bunch.

The AD and Jay Sutton have a much stronger voice than Capel.

And their voices get silenced every now and then when it comes to basketball.
They don't want to put up the money for better teams.

ADs generally make the football schedule, while the other sports generally are made up by the coaches of their respective sports.
