Im being dead serious. Financially I suppose you can make the argument, but this program is going nowhere fast.

He's a lame duck coach in what will be one of our worst seasons ever. Maybe he will resign mid season....I can dream.

Winthrop has opened up a 78-69 lead with 30 secs to go after being up 1 at 70-69.

I guess you have to keep him for the rest of the season, you will not be able to hire anyone in the middle of the season. This is tough, costing us money in terms of gate revenue, you still have to pay him if fired, and no coach is going to talk to us until the end of the season, this is just a freckin disaster

Let an assistant ride out the season. USC did it in football with Kiffin

Fire him yesterday and send a message to the fans that the administration cares about the basketball program after all.

Sampson was the only coach that seemed like he cared for most of the game. I say cut Capel loose and let Sampson finish out the year. Money is the same either way and we can get a head start on finding a replacement.

I like the idea. My problem is "we".

Because Kummer would destroy is to the point that it will take a decade to recover.

Take a decade to recover from what? This team won't win 10 games this year.

Ask AppMan about this because it's eerily similar to the last year of Coach Maravich's last season. He quit and Rusty Bergman finished the season. A final record of 3-23 will do things to your mind.

You underestimate how awful the SoCon is this year. This team will win at least eight SoCon games just because.

Still, Capel needs to go now. He had his chance to earn a conversation to return in non-conference play, but failed miserably.

Reassign Capel to Rick Beasley's division of the AD's office, have the hardest-working assistant finish the season in exchange for a letter of recommendation for their next job and clean house in March.

Agreed with T-Dog here. It does not matter how bad we are, we will still win half our games in this SOCON.

Furman, Citadel, and pre-season favorite Elon have lost to D2 opponents, UNCG lost to Presbyterian by 30 at home, Wofford, Citadel, Samford, and Chattanooga only have 1 D1 win, and Furman and UNCG each have 2 D1 wins. That is how bad the SOCON is this year.

I don't want us to confuse these smoke and mirror wins with capel being worthwhile

At least Coach Maravich had a good reason to resign in mid-season. He had a suicidal wife and an early teens daughter at home. He literally was paranoid to leave home for road games or recruiting trips for fear of what might happen in his absence. And his wife still found a way despite his best efforts.

Capel has no excuse.

That's true; I hesitated to bring those issues into the mix but you're right. Those were very dark times in his life and basketball was not his highest priority, understandably.

Right now we have some good recruits in the pipe line and the staff hasn't completely lost the team. Kummer is a costic figure that will run off players and could effect recruiting. If Gainey was to be the coach then we could maintain and maybe get a little better.
