Our Freshmen

Unread post by AppHoops » Fri Jan 03, 2014 9:41 am

I followed the game last night from start to finish. It was ugly. One thing I just am perplexed by is why NONE of the freshmen played last night? If your veterans are going to get smacked around then why not just blow it up and get those kids some experience? Scott, Toney and Kobani may not be better than any of the upperclassmen, but to me, it makes too much sense to give them exposure against superior competition on the road. You want them to develop as much as possible so that by the end of the year you have a deep team and by the beginning of next, you have established confidence. Capel's lack of rotational knowledge and player development blows my mind.

Because coaching for the future requires job security that our coach doesn't have?

On the contrary, Capel's best move is to market the hell out of those freshmen. Show the department that future may be somewhat bright. Can't do that if they don't play. In fact, the freshmen's development may be the only thing Capel has left to hang his hat on aside from a miraculous SoCon Tourney run once his employment discussions come up after the season.
