Lady Apps at UNC-by-the-Sea

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State women's basketball are now in action in Wilmington, N.C. to take on UNCW for a mid-day New Year's Eve match up.

The Mountaineers (2-8, 0-1 SoCon) are playing UNC Wilmington today after falling to Ohio State on Dec. 20, 52-38. The Seahawks (1-11, 0-0 CAA) have lost their last nine games, with the last loss against Florida Atlantic on Sunday, 81-64.

APP vs. UNCW
• App State is playing UNCW on New Years Eve in Wilmington
• The Mountaineers hold a 5-1 record over the Seahawks, with their last meeting during the 2011-12 season.
• Appalachian and UNCW met for the first time in 17 years during the first round of the 2012 WNIT post-season tournament.
• The Apps moved on to the second-round of the tournament, getting a 79-73 win at Trask Coliseum.

All About the Apps
Appalachian State • 2-8, 0-1 SoCon
• The Apps return to play after an 11-day break from games and the 52-38 loss to Ohio State in Columbus on Dec. 20.
• Despite leading the game at the half, the Mountaineers scored just 17 points in the second and dropped the game to the Big Ten opponent.
• Maryah Sydnor was the leading scorer for the Mountaineers, tallying 11 points in the loss and lengthening her streak of scoring in double-figures to 10-straight games.
• Sydnor continues to lead the Southern Conference in scoring this season, averaging 21.1 points per game.
• KeKe Cooper and Katie Mallow are the second leading scorers on the team so far this season, averaging 9.6 and 9.3 points, respectively.
• Cooper also leads the team in rebounds with an average of 8.4 per game, ranking her sixth in the conference.
• Cooper is first in the SoCon in blocked shots, recording 2.3 per game.
• Appalachian leads the conference in rebounding margin (+3.3) and steals (9.2).
• During the Mountaineers' 2012 win over UNCW, Mallow and Sydnor both saw playing time with Mallow recording 13 points and Sydnor notching six on the game.

Scouting the Seahawks
UNCW • 1-11, 0-0 CAA
• The Seahawks will play Appalachian after suffering 81-64 loss at home to Florida Atlantic on Monday night.
• Four players scored in double-figures for the Seahawks in the loss, with Kelva Atkins leading the way with 18 points.
• Atkins leads UNCW in points this season, averaging 17.5 per game.
• Brie Mobley is second on the team in scoring with 10.6 per game, while Ryan Flowers leads the team in rebounding with a 6.3 average.
• The Seahawks have shot 35.6 percent from the floor this season and 21.4 percent from the arc.

Unfortunately, that is their MO thus far this year.

Unfortunately, that is their MO thus far this year.
Apps win 54-47. KeKe Cooper shot 7 of 10 from the floor; pulled down 8 boards; and added 3 blocks and 2 assists.

How bad is the competition when your team can turn the ball over 32 times; and still win the game on the road?
