MBB: Elon @ App State

Elon RPI #175 v. App State RPI #337 at HCC; that should be self-explanatory.

RealTimeRPI.com has Elon as a 4 point winner this afternoon. Those guys haven't been right on an Appalachian forecast in a month; so why should today be any different. Maybe we squeak one out. It won't change our bottom line, but it's always great to win. Even better to beat Elon. And always great to be a Mountaineer.

Elon has won only once in their last four games; but came out of a three game slump to beat WCU 74-60 in the Elon College, NC *Cracker-Dome.* In contrast, the Apps are 2-2 in their last four games. Tommy Spagnolo has more than picked up the slack for the loss of Jay Canty; but his team can't shake its second-half fade reputation.

BTW, nice feature in today's WSJ on Spagnolo... http://www.journalnow.com/sports/asu/ba ... 41dd6.html

Apps getting worked over by Davidson--wearing Elon unis. Elon by 13 with 4:00 to play in half. Matheny's giving his best arms-folded McKillop imitation!

Obacha went down just before the half. Apparently an ankle. At last report he was on training table without a shoe. Trainers were breakin' out a set of crutches.

Elon by 14 with 9:00 to play.

Rough way to celebrate the return of former Mountaineers and coaches for Reunion Weekend...Coach Light, Coach Cremins and Coach Cantwell and a long line of former players...

Good. Capel can come back to reunion day next year.

I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!

As of 11:30 the day after another loss, we have had 8 posts from 5 people about the basketball game. I think apathy has sat in rather well. Surprised to see the attendance over 2000...Had to be the alumni gathering. Its definitely not the basketball "product".

That's a crying shame. Reunion Weekend is the special event each year that brings the MBB fraternity together to support this year's team; to be introduced to the fans; to renew old acquaintances; to make new friends and to catch up with old team mates. Whether Capel likes it or not, he's THE HOST for that event. He's the BIG CHEESE. He's the exalted ruler of The Fraternity. At the very least, he should have been there to meet and greet former players and coaches. It's a job that goes with being a head coach. It's yet another rap against his contract renewal.

Capel is simply too aloof to be a successful head coach. He doesn't seem to see the people around him. He can't look anyone in the eye when he speaks. He's forever looking over your head or from side to side. There's rarely ever any eye contact with him. Whether that's insecurity or arrogance is for a shrink to figure--not me. Whatever it is, however, it's a loser for any App State head coach.

Capel had two on-camera interviews yesterday with Randy Jackson. He's yet to look Jackson in the eye for even one second. That's inexcusable. He needs a job somewhere else. The sooner; the better.

Don't overlook the fact that there have been approx. 600 views of this thread. Most folks are taking the position of "what else is there to say?" We're all beating a dead horse. Image

We just need to get through the next month supporting our team in the best way(s) that we can. Then we'll have to get through the silly season during which there will be hundreds of rumors about the identity of prospective candidates for what appears to be an absolute certain head coaching vacancy.

they gotta be privately putting out feelers...ive read articles about how replacing during season is just part of doing business in college sports because remember...its a money making business. i dont wish capel any ill will but you have to see that he probably knows he's toast and i doubt he's beating the bushes right now in regards to recruiting. i guess im just over it as previously mentioned by another poster. and honestly, you can call me a bandwagon fan in hoops...i hate even saying that but our basketball program is like that girl you never got to 1st base with...always got you excited at the start only to never seal the deal.
