I appreciate your covering the hoops team despite what is a disappointing season on many fronts and is clearly an unstable situation for the men's basketball program. Like everyone else here, we really want to see the men's team become successful.

I want them successful next season with a new coach. I don't want any perceived success to fool anyone for even a minute that Capel should be retained.

If we can get a new coach that will convince the cry baby to stay and play, add him to Flomo (who I've seen play in person) and we will a very nice team next year that can help rebuild the program.

Have heard that Flomo will NOT attend App State if Capel is let go. FWIW.

Flomo does not have a choice I believe. Unless our AD lets him out of his LOI, then he must sit a year in Boone before transferring.

Yea, but Flomo's grounds for release of his NLI will have a better chance being granted since his commitment was based on a coaching staff being in place. App more than likely lets him go. Graham's case was simply, he ended up thinking he was too good for where he signed after he signed and was talking to other coaches. App saw it as tampering and thus the saga began and remains on going. If Capel is indeed fired and Flomo requests release bc of that, I imagine that it will be granted by the university.

I do, however, hope Flomo comes either way. He's talented and we could use him. He and Ty Toney could be a pretty good scoring duo in the backcourt.

If he does weasel out of it that's fine. A better coach will find a better player to replace him.

Actually Capel would not be considered fired based on FLSA. His contract would just not be renewed. Wonder if he would qualify for un-employment in this case?

With a loss to Furman sat, we can now easily slip into the 10th spot after yesterdays Catamount sweep of us this season. A vermin win sat. puts them 1 game back (with only 3 conference wins) with 2 games to play each. Theirs being both at home, while us away again for final 2 games. Since Sat. game is our only meeting this season, they would get the tiebreaker. Call me Captain pessimist, but I've got us penciled in for the #10 seed in Asheville. And yes I already have my tickets as well.

I can't remember a year where the three major men's sports had such a dismal combined record. Of course, baseball has just begun. I did a quick run down of the SoCon schools who play all three:

Wofford 22-19
GS 22-21
Elon 20-22
WCU 20-24
Samford 20-24
Furman 19-25
App 12-30
Citadel 11-33

Not exactly leaving the SoCon in a blaze of glory.

That ranking just about sums up the challenge Charlie Cobb has ahead of him. Assuming (that's dangerous, I know) that football and women's basketball can right themselves, Charlie APPSOLUTELY has to pull a fine chinchilla out of his hat with his choice for a men's basketball coach. An ordinary magician's rabbit won't fix what's wrong this time. If he "muffs" this decision with a new Chancellor arriving by July 1, he could well be punching his own ticket out the door. The pressure is rising over in the Athletics Tower in KBS.
