Take these with a grain of salt.

Re: The ASU coaching search and potential candidates to disc
Some schools are moving decisively to hire top candidates. Bowling Green got a good one. Very discouraging to hear CC over the weekend say that we are still in the "preliminary" stage. Is this another way of saying that when all of the good coaches have been taken, we will go thrift shopping again?

Yeah, the first has been discussed extensively on this board for a couple months; the second was implied publicly by Cobb.Goapps15 wrote:Per Twitter,

Re: The ASU coaching search and potential candidates to disc
Word has it that Cobb's favorite, Bobby Lutz, has put his name in the mix for the UNCW job. It will be interesting to see how this impacts our search. I hope dragging our feet waiting on Lutz hasn't cost us a chance at some of these assistants that are landing jobs.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

If we had jumped and hired Lutz, I'd be reading about how it wasn't a national search and how Cobb didn't try.
The reality of our current situation isn't a pretty one from the outside.

It is not a pretty situation, however with the financial issues UNCW has I'd hope we would get him over them.
Rhoades will likely succeed Smart at VCU and if not would likely follow him to Marquette.
There is nothing wrong with Lutz. He would be as good as anyone since Buzz if not better than Buzz.
If we miss out on both of these guys then we are in for a whirlwind process. I hope Cobb does not mess this up with another unproven guy. We need someone who wants the job and wants to fix our problems not up and leave at his first opportunity.

The only thing that messes this up is MONEY and we don't give enough to pay top drawer coaches.....if BL has thrown his name in for the UNCW job then he does not want to come to Boone.

How about all the TV money we have coming our way. What are we going to do with that money if not pay coachesRekdiver wrote:The only thing that messes this up is MONEY and we don't give enough to pay top drawer coaches.....if BL has thrown his name in for the UNCW job then he does not want to come to Boone.

Heard the same. Have to wonder who is on the "search committee" (like we don't know ) and where he...I mean they might look next should Lutz get offered and take the UNCW job.JTApps1 wrote:Word has it that Cobb's favorite, Bobby Lutz, has put his name in the mix for the UNCW job. Re: The ASU coaching search and potential candidates to disc
Well, in a positive sense, these are two "procedural items" that were completely ignored last time around. The athletic department was in complete violation of university policy before.
And concerning Lutz, he'd be foolish not to test the waters at UNC-W before he agreed to anything with ASU. It's a certifiable fact that last time around, UNC-W paid it's new head coach $250,000 more per year than ASU paid its new coach. Lutz is no fool; he'll need to know what he can make both places (as compared with an almost certain performance boost at NC State) before he makes ANY decisions. He won't go anywhere making less than his NEW salary in Raleigh.
If Charlie wants Lutz, he'll have to get dead serious about salaries--or he'll be wasting everyone's time.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

I've heard too many negative comments from people with connections to Lutz to want him at App.

Re: The ASU coaching search and potential candidates to disc
I wonder how many of these schools were contacted fishing for assistants for the new coaching staff. Some of these schools don't really have a coach in waiting.firemoose wrote:Here's more fodder for the group. Thought it might be interesting discussion material since we were only supposed to be looking for coaches with HC experience. I'm checking more coaching sites to see if there is any truth to these rumors.
Coaching Rumors @coaching_rumors
App State has been in contact with Assistants from SC, Clemson, GT, Alabama, and UGA in regards to their open HC position.

Could Tony Pujol, former App State assistant now assistant at Alabama, perhaps in the picture for head coach or returning star assistant?
