Asked about the Jason Capel situation:

"A lot of things going on behind the scenes there" & "i am glad he is out of there"

He's right he only had a defending north champion caliber program, twice the recruiting budget as prior head coaches yet still couldn't win or graduate players. What a joke of a comment.

You guys act like our basketball program has any credibility at all. Yes capel wasn't too successful but I'm gonna take Jeff Capel at his word that there is an iffy situation within the basketball program behind the scenes. And btw anyone who had Jeff Capel as a candidate here has a very inflated view of the program and who would actually want to come coach here. Maybe I sound pessimistic but I think it's the harsh reality of App basketball

We had credibility until about 4 years ago. Basketball programs can rise out of the ashes very quickly with the right coach at the helm. For God's sake, Wofford has been to the NCAA Tournament 3 of the past 5 years. As for Jeff Capel, I don't know anyone who'd really want him here. I also didn't expect him to say, "Everything was perfect at ASU, and everyone was so supportive- my brother must be a horrible coach."

If the respectability of the program has taken that much of a slide in the past 4 years, then it should reflect on Capel as much as anyone else.

What would anyone expect Jeff or Jason to say? Coaches that are relieved of their duties are always looking to salvage their career and reputation and often try to present an "alternative" view of what happened. Keep it vague, but hint that "it's not my fault".

In every program, there are always "a lot of things going on behind the scenes". That's a throw-away statement that anyone can make at any time.

I'm not about to suggest that simply replacing Capel will result in a 180-degree turn in the program, and I too think that there's other "stuff" in the program that may need addressing, but I'm comfortable saying that Jason is a pretty weak head basketball coach (at least at this point in his career) that had his shot and didn't produce and needed to be replaced.

Just a brother covering for an incompetent sibling. I'm not that surprised or offended, just annoyed to get the negative press from a radio show that is typically so good to us.

Anyone who doesn't attribute our basketball program's sharp decline to Jason Capel hasn't been paying attention. You know it, I know it, David Glenn knows it.

Just reflective of today's society - always somebody else's fault. I didn't hear his comments, but it appears that he could have taken the high road and simply said it just wasn't the right situation for Jason and ASU. Instead, he delivered a dig at a school that gave his brother a tremendous opportunity even though he was tremendously under-qualified for it.

How much can be going on behind the scenes other than hiring the coaches? I mean it comes down to the coaches finding 10 guys that can move, block and shoot the ball. I understand that he got some bad breaks, but those things happen. When you got guys that can't hit a free throw, that's not a back office problem. When you find your best player at the SRC (when someone else tell you), it's doesn't say a lot about your recruitment or commitment.

You know that's a really good point. I defy Jeff Capel, or anyone for that matter, to elaborate on this "behind the scenes" problem. I can't even imagine a scenario that would completely absolve Jason from his epic failure as a head coach, from a W/L standpoint, an off the court disciplinary standpoint, and an APR standpoint.

" I mean it comes down to the coaches finding 10 guys that can move, block and shoot the ball."

Gee - if it was easy to do this we wouldn't be seeing all of these coaches relieved of duties :o

And really - HE IS HIS BROTHER - don't know about you guys but I would say whatever to help my brother going forward --- Jason wasn't ready to be a head coach, anyone think he should have turned down the head coach position??? - not me, it didn't work for him but now it's time for all to move forward ---

I can easily think of a hundred things he could have said, that doesn't burn any bridges.

1) Yeah it just didn't work out the way he would have liked.
2) He learned a lot, and all and all, he thinks it was a positive experience for him.
3) He caught a few bad breaks, but you just have to pick yourself up and go on
...
100) Even the best coaches have had some tough years.

If I was hiring a coach, I certainly wouldn't want one that had his brother infer that there was something going on wrong/crooked at the last place he was at, unless he could back it up. I I'd stamp "skip and all cost" on his resume and move on.

I think you are right on there were many better things he could have said - but again, he is his brother ---

Are we totally sure there is nothing to the inference that "something is wrong" at APP - personally I know nothing either way ---

That App requires Student Athletes to go to class and sits them when they don't perform academically....

Listen, we saw Jason coach and that wasn't behind the scenes. We saw him experiment with too many lineups and miss using Spagnola who sat on the bench. He just didn't get it done.

Suppose there were things going on behind the scenes at Oklahoma for Jeff as well.

There certainly were, and they became public, but Jeff successfully avoided getting himself directly implicated in them with the NCAA.
