Unread post by asu66 » Tue Apr 01, 2014 3:59 pm

CBI TOURNEY SEMIFINALS - TUESDAY, APRIL 1

All Times EST
Yale (18-13) @ VMI (22-12) 7:00 pm
Pacific (18-15) @ Murray State (21-11) 9:00 pm

CBS Sports Network, Channel 221 on Directv

VMI's Duggar Baucom and Murray State's Matt McMahon will be at work tonight as their respective teams play on their home courts in the College Insider Tourney semis.

If both should win, Thursday's night's finals would have a little extra interest for App State fans.

VMI not shooting well at all but I'm pretty impressed with the players Baucum recruited from NC GSO and CLT areas. Announcer also said Baucum is from NC which I didn't know.
I remember--and saw--the VMI Elite Eight team when only 32 teams made the field, that our Apps battled and beat in the late 70s. The good old days.

I remember a trip or two to Cameron Hall in Lexington and to the Roanoke Civic Center when Ron Carter and Dave Montgomery were playing for the Runnin' Roos. Saw the "Roo" on the court before this game tonite and that reminded me of VMI when the clown, Marty Fletcher, was their coach. Also remember when Fletcher was the HC at Louisiana-Lafayette and he brought his Ragin Cajuns to VG to face Tom Apke's Apps. Good ol' days!

I was there. Saw a game or two in The Pit before Cameron was built. Bill Blair, went on to Colorado, was a great coach too. And we weren't too shabby. Davis Babb, a friend and App tennis great, was VMI AD for a long while. Think he is at Texas Tech now as an asst AD.

The pit was an appropriate name for that place. I coached indoor track in my day and we ran some meets there. The feature that was most memorable was the tunnel under the stands. It's said a lot of interesting things happened when runners would enter the tunnel out of site of officials.

Davis was at TCU a long time but now is the Executive Director of IPTAY at Clemson.
