Re: New basketball schedule is out and looking better!
Two home non-conference games compared to seven road non-conference games?
Out of 17 Saturdays in the season, we are home on Saturday just four times?
I'm pleased we're playing an all-Division I schedule as the next person -- it's about time -- but that home schedule is nothing to write home about.

4 of the road games are over Christmas break. Not much point in playing at home when there are no students in Boone. Would like to see a few more too but overall it's a much better schedule than we've had in the past. A little strange we go to Furman but mayby they come to Boone next season. It will be nice to finish the season with a 4 game home stand. And it's strange not seeing Sun Belt Tournament dates at the end of the schedule. Maybe next year, I hope.

How many of those might lead to a return trip to Boone next year?
Charlotte?
Furman?
Jack?
Ohio?
There is a home game near my daughter's bday on a Saturday, so that is nice for me personally. Maybe I can talk her into staying in Boone that weekend.

Furman, Jack, and Ohio could all produce return trips but we played Charlotte last year in Boone.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:How many of those might lead to a return trip to Boone next year?

If Coach Fox can turn this thing around, I don't care where the games are!

Re: New basketball schedule is out and looking better!
I would say a good bit of that is due to budget issues. With the move to the Sunbelt and increased travel and increases in coaching salaries and the like, we are looking to get ahead on some of the costs.8993 wrote:We only play home 12 times compared to playing on the road 17 times. The other reason would be that, even with being at Davidson, Fox doesn't have the relationships that would bring some teams to Boone in his first year. That and remember that we did a search this time and it delayed him being able to get his staff and schedule games. Give it a year or so and we will have a more balance home/away slate.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Since we are APR banned for this season in the NCAA tourney, we are most likely the same for the Sunbelt.goapps93 wrote:8993 wrote:We only play home 12 times compared to playing on the road 17 times. I'm a little lost as to why that is...

Re: New basketball schedule is out and looking better!
We have more away games because of one reason only, and that's the simple fact that formidable opponents aren't coming to your place when you won, what, 8 games last year? I'll take the current schedule over playing 4-5 D2 teams in boone and drawing a crowd of maybe 500 for those said games.
I'm starting to feel like nothing is ever good enough for some of our fan base

Some people need to quit whining and start being supportive of our coach and this program. Not an awesome schedule but why would anyone expect one at this point? Looks OK to me. Give things some time.

WBB schedule is out too.
If you noticed that both teams have the exact same Sun Belt schedules, your eyes don't deceive you. Every Sun Belt game night, home and away, is a doubleheader. According to HQ, it's for this year only.

Re: New basketball schedule is out and looking better!
I probably shouldn't be surprised that people would complain over 2 non-conference home games... but come on!
Our basketball program is at the lowest point of all time. We should be thankful that we have what we have.
If this type of schedule happens again in maybe two years, I'll scratch my head...
But for now, let's just work on not being an abysmal basketball program.

Re: New basketball schedule is out and looking better!
I don't see people going over the top complaining about the schedule. But come on, two OOC home games is unheard of, at least for me. It was certainly the first thing that jumped out to me. Are people just supposed to pretend not to notice?
My guess is we'll fill in some of those spots with SoCon opponents in future years. Might have just been too short-notice to do so this year.

Re: New basketball schedule is out and looking better!
I agree with those who are satisfied with this schedule. We can worry about more home games when we are competitive and put more than a few hundred in the seats every night. We probably lose money on many of our home games!
Lets hope we improve this year and our coach builds up good will that can translate into stronger schedules in the future!

I'll take 2 OOC home games against D1 programs over 4-5 OOC homes games against D2 programs 1000 times out of 1000.
Excited for the new campaign.

Re: New basketball schedule is out and looking better!
Are we really surprised???
D1 non-conference home games:
'13-14 - 2
'12-13 - 2 (& one neutral in Charlotte)
'11-12 - 1
'10=11 - 1
'09-'10 - 2
'08-'09 - 3 (sweet baby Jesus jackpot!)
I like the power conference teams we are playing for this year.
Looks like he was able to put together as good of a schedule as we've seen historically with half the time.
