Message to coach Capel & his brother

You should watch and learn from a REAL coach, coach Fox !!
He has done more in 3 months, than you did in 4 YEARS.
He is teaching the game. The players are playing better. APP has a 3-2 record and a ACC victory.
When Capel left, his brother BLAMED APP STATE for the results that coach Capel had.
I call BULL on his excuses !!
Coach Fox is proving those statements a laugh and he is doing it FAST
Thank You Coach Fox.....I hope you are a Mountaineer for many years to come.
GO APPS !!!!

Yeah, Jeff made himself look stupid with those comments. He should've accepted that we gave his unqualified brother an opportunity he didn't deserve and it didn't work out for either party.

I've always thought that the hire of Capel was really never fair to the school or him. He had 1 year as an assistant, and it wasn't even as a top assistant. It probably set his career as a coach back a decade or may have torpedo'ed it permanently. I don't blame him from taking it (I don't think there is anyone among us that would have turned down the sweetheart of an offer that he got), but I do blame our administration at the time of letting a donor(s) make a decision for you, just in search of a "name" splash hire. I don't wish him any ill will at this point and, in fairness, I hope he gets another chance, but he obviously either did not look at recruits academics or didn't run a tight ship. Just wish it hadn't happened to us. I think we have the right guy now, but we need to remember to give him time and if we start to suffer this season or next, I hope no one starts calling for Fox's head.

The guy was a Tar Heel. Here's how things work at UNC: You draw All-American, top 100 talent every year; your players are mostly illiterate, but that doesn't matter because fake classes and phony grades won't hurt APR; you put your 5 best players on the court and have no need to really coach them; those players play for a year or two and leave for the NBA, so you recruit more All-Americans to replace them; and you're a top 25 team every year.
That formula doesn't work in the mid-majors. You have to recruit smart kids who can shoot and you have to coach them. You have to teach set plays and scenarios. Most of all you have to recruit real student athletes who won't flunk their classes, because kids have to be actual college students at mid-majors.
This is why Capel failed at every aspect of coaching. I would suspect similar failures from UNC products who jump into a mid-major head coaching role.

Rick,
He failed on his own, then he cried that it wasn't fair, and his brother publicly tried to throw App State under the bus.
Coach Fox is proving Capel a liar, that it was App State's fault he failed.
All the other stuff doesn't matter. He left with the lack of skill verified ,along with the same entitlement issues by blaming App state for his shortcomings.

And how do you know most of Roy's players are illiterate? Can you supply a link to this as fact?
Roy doesn't coach his players? How do you know this? Can you supply a link to this as fact?
** Didn't think so. You are so jealous of UNC. It's really comical.
It must be a terrible life to have so much hatred about something as little of importance as to who you pull for in college athletics...

Oh no. Did someone go and insult your Tar Heels?
I assure you that no one here on MMB is jealous of Chapel Hill. Replace "Jealous" with "Angry" and you'll get warmer.
UNC is a crooked institution that does anything it can to stay at the top, ethical or not. Would this anger exist if App State didn't get the short straw at UNC's expense in many cases? Probably not. But it's reality.
Any "App Grad" that pulls for UNC so feverishly is ignorant. Period. End of story.

Wes Miller is doing OK at UNCG.

I have no problem with what Jeff Capel said - it is his brother - and everyone knows he was wrong but he was supporting his brother --- we aren't talking murder of any criminal activities - I would support my brother in a similar situation ---

Here's a link to your questions. Proof of UNC treachery.

Appgrad, the only time you post is to discuss UNCCH, welcome to the ignore list.
Great thread, I agree it wasn't fair for Capel to be handed a job he wasn't qualified for, but Jeff's comments were ignorant.

Let's talk about now and forget the past. It was a failed experiment but I see no reason at this point to continue to condemn anyone since we are clearly in a better position under Jim Fox.

Aaaaaaand, AppGrad1 quickly coming to the Baby blue rescue of his beloved Tar Heels. Good Lord man give it a rest. You are on an App State message board, we don't need you to rescue them each time someone says something about your heels. The heels will get bashed here just like any other team not named Appalachian State. There are plenty of other Chapel Hell message boards to feel good about supporting them. Do us a favor and let it go.

The only problem is he went out of his way to bash App. He could have been a little more tactful in his response.

I doubt you would throw an entire program under the bus in the process.

"It must be a terrible life to have so much hatred about something as little of importance as to who you pull for in college athletics..."
Well, it must be of "importance" to you, since you feel the need to defend the team "who you pull for" at every opportunity on another team's message board. Based on your own assessment, your life must truly suck.
