Like their male counterparts, the ASU women's basketball team has been in free-fall since senior C/F Maryah Sydnor suffered an injury late last month in San Marcos, Tx. Since then, our ladies have gone 2-5--including a stretch of three straight losses. Sydnor returned to the lineup and played a role in her team's 55-54 win at Louisiana-Monroe last week. On Thursday evening, Sydnor put on a remarkable 18 point, 18 rebound double-double performance but didn't get a lot of help in a 55-45 loss to a very tall UT-Arlington team.
Today the RPI #154 Apps (11-13, 6-9 Sun Belt) take on the RPI #240 GSU Panthers (11-13, 6-9 Sun Belt) in a battle for seventh place in the league and a place at the table for the SunBelt Tourney in New Orleans. Currently, the Apps are in a three-way tie (that includes GaState and Louisiana-Monroe) for seventh and desperately need a win to break up the logjam and enhance their chances of making the tourney. Only eight of the league's eleven teams will get tourney berths.
Despite their higher RPI ranking, RealTimeRPI.com has the Apps as seven point dogs in today's contest. Jeff Sagarin has it dead even.
