The RPI #236 Bobcats of TxState (13-14, 7-11 SunBelt) are in town for a 7:30 PM contest that will break up the Sun Belt seventh place logjam with RPI #275 ASU (10-17, 7-11 Sunbelt). The Apps will be looking to dispatch the 'Cats from that seventh place tie and to sweep them for the season. The Apps took the first contest 64-58 on the road in San Marcos on Frank Eaves' 31 point performance. TxState, on the other hand, will look to extend a two-game win streak and seal a berth in the SunBelt Tourney. Only the top eight teams will move into tourney play.
In addition to taking on a hungry App team, the Bobcats will have to brave 19 degree and falling temps, sleet and wind when they step off the bus at HCC at about 6:45 PM. Welcome to NC's High Country, guys.
Kavin-Gilder Tilbury leads the Bobcats and is coming off a two-game stretch which saw him be named the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Player of the week. He averaged 16.0 points per game for the week and shot 56.3 percent from the field for the week (9-of-16) including 62.5 percent from three-point range (5-of-8). Texas State beat both Arkansas State and Troy last week, to move into the tie for the seventh spot in the Sun Belt standings. The Bobcats can clinch a berth in the tournament with a win tonight.
By the numbers including ASU's home court advantage, the Apps are favored by a single point. It's a virtual tossup. RealTimeRPI.com predicts the Apps by 4.
The Apps have a good chance to win out; and finish the season with a three game win streak. That would cap a strong effort on the part of our team and crown Jim Fox as one of the NCAA's finest miracle workers.
