Re: App Hoops: Postseason Snap Shot Part 3
Interesting look back. I didn't know much about the '79 team, and somehow didn't realize (or forgot) that our '07 team beat the Eric Maynor VCU squad. Unfortunately the sample size of App postseason teams is too small to determine any real patterns, even before you consider the difficulty of comparing across eras and now being in a new league.
1999-2000 was my senior year, and it was a great ride seeing that team finally break through. They had won 20+ games the previous two years but lost in the SoCon final each year and been left out of the NIT. Had the CBI/CIT existed back then, we'd probably have gone.
The fact that we can even discuss the possibility of any sort of postseason play this year with a straight face is a great compliment to the job Fox and his staff have done so far.
Couple other notes on '07 - you mentioned VCU, Vandy and UVa all made the 2nd round of the NCAA. Vandy actually made the Sweet 16, and might have been a missed travel call away from the Elite 8. Also UVa tied for 1st in the ACC that year. That App team had some really great wins and some inexcusable losses.

Exactly. I still firmly believe if we didn't lose to a 7-23 Elon, 15-16 Furman, or 16-14 UNC-G, we would have been the first SoCon at large team in the NCAA. We only had 3 conference losses that year -- these were the 3.EastHallApp wrote:That App team had some really great wins and some inexcusable losses.

Would have been 28-4 along with all those quality wins. Probably would have been enough.AppStateNews wrote:Exactly. Of course it didn't help that DJ Thompson had the worst game of his life in the conference tourney loss.
