App vs Charlotte
Okay, I will start it.
Is this a game nobody cares about this year? The 2-7 Mountaineers host the 1-8 49ers. Both teams have new coaching staffs--Fox in year 2, Price in year 1. Neither team is likely to make any noise in their conferences. Our only game in common is Furman--Charlotte beat them by 9, and App lost by 9--but I hardly believe the transitive property will save us. Probably the biggest question is whether the total score will exceed total attendance. Right now I think it is a push. I am skipping the trip, and you will probably be tailgating.
Good luck Niners! Maybe we will see you guys next year.

Re: App vs Charlotte
I think the unfortunate (but hardly unpredictable) conflict with the bowl game is definitely hurting interest from our side. I'm just looking for progress from App this year. That wasn't evident in the early games, but it sounds like we've at least been more competitive recently, though obviously the record doesn't show it.
I'm not going to say "nobody cares," but hopefully this will be a bigger game in future years.

I think App is actually on the way up from a very deep bottom while UNCC is still trending down.
Both have good coaches that will get them to better places, but it'll take a couple years.

Unfortunately the bowl game will keep me from attending this pillow fight. I was looking forward to it when the schedule was released. I think both fan bases will need to give their respective coaches another 2-3 years to make the turnaround. Fox had to put out a dumpster fire and Price was left with a bare cupboard.

this is going to be the worst attended game in a long, long time, cant see more than 500 at this game. I feel really bad for Fox and the players, hopefully we can start winning some games and fans will start paying attention and support the team.

We were preoccupied. I guess it kind of liked like Richardson Stadium in there.

Re: App vs Charlotte
300 plus attendance is embarrassing, but atleast we have the excuse of playing in our first bowl game, whats UNCC fans excuse for not traveling a couple of hours to see their team play? Hint, it sure as hell isn't the football team playing in a bowl game!!

Good post! Our university had other fish to fry this entire week; and did so with great success. I hate it for Coach Fox and our players, but this situation could not have been prognosticated when the basketball schedule was being developed.EastHallApp wrote:I think the unfortunate (but hardly unpredictable) conflict with the bowl game is definitely hurting interest from our side. There will come a time for sweet payback to the 49ers--in more sports than one.

Re: App vs Charlotte
Little to no interest in our basketball program versus our football program definitely does not help. As much faith as I have in Fox, I don't think he will stick around Boone for very long. He may help us to improve and look okay before he departs, but after so many years of awful attendance and abysmal interest by the entire Appalachian fanbase, Fox has his hands full in convincing any fans to travel to Boone for a basketball game, let alone the students.
Fox is a phenomenal coach with a great track record, but I think he will end up somewhere where there is a bit more commitment and interest in basketball, because, as many of us likely know, Appalachian is a football school in a basketball state. It'll be tough for him to convince anybody to see a balance.

Re: App vs Charlotte
Looks like the 49ers did not wear their official colors of white and PMS 349 green. You'd think with their complete disdain for all things App, they would not want to dress in App's primary color.
This is not to just call them out, as UNC, Duke, ECU, VT and many others all do it. Teams who wear black when it's not a primary or secondary color for their program seem to be infringing on teams' brands where black is their primary color. You won't see App wearing green or blue or purple or anything that's not our official colors.
My question to fans of these teams who want to dress like App, why don't you all wear UNC powder blue or Duke devil blue or ECU purple?

Re: App vs Charlotte
So I am assuming these are rhetorical questions, but black is just an alternate uniform for us. Once you have white and green what else are you going to do? Many of the older 49ers would like to see our gold uniforms come back, but players all want black, so we give it to them. Maybe we play better in them.moonshine wrote:Looks like the 49ers did not wear their official colors of white and PMS 349 green. Re: App vs Charlotte
Here's a novel idea, for all the teams who do not have black as a primary or secondary color, in UNCC's case your teams can wear your white and green uniforms (or whatever the school's colors are for any aforementioned programs) or change your school colors to include black.
I would like to know why these programs choose to wear App's primary color and not some other schools' mentioned earlier? Maybe UNC can bite your green, ECU can steal Carolina blue and the 49ers can copy Duke.

You make me chuckle moonshine. #blackjerseysmatter You should start an organization to keep us interlopers in line.moonshine wrote:Here's a novel idea, for all the teams who do not have black as a primary or secondary color, in UNCC's case your teams can wear your white and green uniforms (or whatever the school's colors are for any aforementioned programs) or change your school colors to include black.
