In the wake of Winter Storm Jonas, the Ga So Iggles (6-11, 2-5 SBC) will fly into HCC later this evening still giddy over their two ugly, runaway wins over the Apps last season. The Apps (5-13, 3-4 SBC) surely remember the cold winter evening when Southern's senior-led team ran them off their own hardwood by 19 points--the first Ga South win in Boone in more than ten years. This season, the visitors look more like the Apps--both teams starting two, and sometimes three, freshmen.

The Apps, at 3-4 in SBC play, are in a two-way tie for eighth place with Tx State. Ga So is alone in ninth place at 2-5. With a win tonight, the Apps would move into a two-way tie for sixth place with UL-Monroe. Outside of UA-Little Rock (who is all alone in first place at 7-1), the conference race is very fluid. The Apps are very much in the picture for a high finish in the standings. By the numbers, the Apps are favored by 10 tonight.

On a side note, the oft criticized Jerry Eaves suddenly leads the SBC in both scoring (20.6 ppg) and in three-point FG accuracy (44.4%).

Something to watch for: Ga So, despite a 6-11 record, is averaging only 9.4 turnovers in its last five games. The Apps would kill for that stat. Turnovers could well be the difference in this game.

As low as our RPI was for a bit is this the first game this year with our RPI higher than the competition?

Never felt worse for a group of players. I've never seen anything like it in person. Better days are certainly ahead, very impressed.

I hope that does not cost us our shot at playing in the conference tournament. Going to be interesting to see how they bounce back. That's two games we've really given away now (Mercer and Ga So.)

Not sure we handled the last 5 seconds very well. I would liked to have seen a TO after Lawson's foul shots to establish what we wanted to do on
defense. I know coaches approach it differently but with 5 seconds left and up by three, you foul before he gets a chance to shoot but certainly not as he's shooting.

Devastating loss from the perspective of how it can stem the momentum this team was gaining especially with two winnable games on the road. After being down by 11, the Apps took control of the game and once with the lead seemed headed for a .500 record in the conference.

As bad as I feel right now, I can only imagine how crushed the guys are right now.

Gut punch. With Ours and Southern's youth these two teams could be running this conference in 2 years.

Blessing in disguise the snow fall moved this game to Monday and postponed the football celebration. Can imagine how bad this would look in front of 4000 vs losing this way in front of 1000. We would have probably lost 2,000 of those fans there for the football event and would never attend another hoops game. This way at least most won't even know it happened.

Ga So delivered a double-punch to the gut tonite. This is one of those times that the less I post, the better. Like everyone else, I hate it for all of our guys--players and coaches. Shabazz was on a really even keel after the game. He seems very mature for his age. Said the team would bounce back quickly.

also on CBS sports. Better look at the foul at the end, don't know if I would have called that.

Perhaps but Burgess shouldn't been in a position for the ref to make the call. I still think under 7 seconds with a three point lead you foul before they have a chance to take the three. It was an incredible shot, one he likely would never make again but he did when it mattered.

Fox has shared with me that he and McKillop disagreed once regarding whether or not to foul at that point. I think if the situation is going to give a guy a better look, closer to the basket, you definitely foul. But, the dude hit a 40 footer. I think in that scenario, you take your chances. The true aberration is the official being convinced that a foul occurred on that shot.

The true aberration was the foul calls the WHOLE game, 60+ fouls called in one game is absurd.
