Back in the day...I was into white water kayaking and paddled the New River Gorge several times. Totally loved it.

I read on here where some of you guys enjoy outdoor activities so I would suggest that once things are somewhat back to normal you might want to check this area out - Not far from the Gorge is Summersville Lake and it is honestly an absolutely beautiful area - they have pontoon boats to rent and other types as well - Many bring their own - In the fall/winter they let a lot of water out and that leads to high-level rafting on the Gauley - It also keeps the lake water from getting stagnant - the town of Summersville has several motels if you are not into camping -

I have paddled right into the discharge of the Summersville dam to take on the mighty Upper Gauley fall run. You are pretty much in a class 4 rapid the moment you stepped in the boat. INTENSE!!!

I never did paddle the Gauley...but the lore is that the Upper Gauley has class 4 rapids with class 5 consequences if you make a mistake...now that I think about it that's why I never ran it..

Apparently, you can rent a private island within this new swanky national park.

Thanks - I had not heard of this place - interesting - It is a good ways from the New River Gorge area however - Pipestem State Park is near and although I haven't been there for many years I do believe it is still top=notch with a lodge, cabins, trails, golf course, etc.
