Great news for college athletics
Just kidding. Terrible news. If we didn’t already know the sport we loved is cooked.

I guess U of U beat out the Big 10 in terms of inking the first PE deal.

I’m counting the days until the big boys finally break away entirely and leave us behind so we can go back to just being collegiate sports. If I wanted to watch a bad NFL product I’d watch the XFL.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 1:39 pmJust put a salary cap in place and voila.... the mini-NFL.ah59396 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 1:33 pmJust kidding. A salary cap is only good for contracts with the school. You can’t limit the amount of outside pay from Bobs Used Cars, the courts have already ruled on that (it’s what NIL really is). If a cap is tried to be put in place, you end up with brown bags in lockers again.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 1:39 pmJust put a salary cap in place and voila.... the mini-NFL.ah59396 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 1:33 pmJust kidding. The only feasible option that includes a cap is to make all payments go through the individual school athletic departments, and then you could limit what they pay. But I still think you run into issues with telling players they can’t sign contracts with outside entities for NIL
Give 'em hell!

"The first-of-its-kind equity deal includes a fascinating concept: Utah is inviting its most prominent boosters to purchase a stake in the new, private athletics company, Utah Brands & Entertainment LLC.

Re: Great news for college athletics
Ive said for a decade on here thay the future of college athletics will see football break away as a separate entity that pays the school to use its NIL on its products giving a kickback to the school but making them a private entity. Contracts for players. They won't have to be students unless they want to. It will be a full blown minor league under the guise of college mascots and names.

Re: Great news for college athletics
Count me in the camp that is now ready for the much anticipated break away in major college football. Let the "big boys" have their own league that pays kids, the rest can go back to what we knew as college football. In the Alston case, which did not deal with NIL or even paying players but dealt with denying educational benefits, one of the big sticking points that led to the conclusion of an antitrust violation was that there was only 1 place to go for major college football- the NCAA. Well if the big boys break off and have a conference of made up of 64 teams, then the rest could presumably go back to what we had before. There would not be an anti trust issue because the student/athlete would have options, they could either play for pay or play for education. Sure, it would essentially be FCS again but we just can't compete with the money being thrown around.

You’re familiar with the Midas touch?
Private Equity brings that, except it’s the complete opposite.
