Alston Bridges beats the pants off of the BBQ lodge in Shelby. I was suprised to see Red Bridges BBQ Lodge listed among the best in Our State magazine a couple months back. But I agree there are two good BBQ places named Bridges in Shelby NC.Maddog1956 wrote:Just in NC they could add...

Re: BBQ's Top Twenty
Here's a name I never see tossed into the ring in these discussions...Hickory Log BBQ. That's probably because it's located in Forest City and not many travel to that part of the state. Although it has been several years since I enjoyed my last bite of their delicious cue, if it's still like it was back then it's very much worth a visit if you pass through or visit that neck of the woods. Great red slaw too, and their sweet tea is just right.

IMO...they could add Parker's BBQ and Bill's BBQ in Wilson, NC.

Re: BBQ's Top Twenty
That list is garbage in my opinion. When any list of top bbq does not include a single place in the states of South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and yes even Florida there is a real problem with the list. I eat bbq everywhere that I travel and nothing beats the stuff in the south. In the south the meat is the draw, in most other places its all about the sauce that the meat is drenched in. When I want q, I want to taste the meat first and foremost and then add whatever level of sauce that I prefer. There are roadside shacks throughout the south that bbq meat better than anything most have tasted, yet somehow this author thinks a place in Detroit or New York is better. Pure garbage.

Only time I ever went to Red's was when Alston's was closed because they sold out.
