Which reminds me, have they caught the ones who vandalized the business school building on campus?

Glad they were arrested. Only wish they were charged with felonies.

Actually, I believe it could be. Gonzo or others could correct me, but I believe intentional damage to property in excess of a rather low threshold ($200 or $500) can be classified as a felony. Especially when a vehicle is involved and even moreso when it is a Police car.

They were each charged with eight misdemeanors. I get the feeling this was a negotiated surrender.

You seriously think that graffiti warrants a felony charge? A category of crime that usually encompasses a long prison term and the loss of the ability to vote, become licensed and makes it near impossible to gain employment. Yeah no, it was a stupid action but few people actually deserve the title of felon.

Yeah, I do.

RALEIGH – To combat the many acts of vandalism reported every year, the state’s construction industry has pushed through legislation that could put offenders behind bars for as long as 12 months.

A bill signed by Gov. Mike Easley that goes into effect on Dec. 31 elevates acts of vandalism that result in more than $5,000 in damages to class 1 felonies. Previously, such acts were classified as misdemeanors.

That doesnt stop people from committing crimes. It just makes it impossible for them to be productive members of society. It was a non-violent crime that posed no danger to the safety of the residents of boone. They should have to clean up the paint and compensate the owners of the buildings. That justice in my eyes

Interestingly enough, neither had any record outside of a traffic ticket. They'll get community service, court costs and unsupervised probation. They won't see any time behind bars as long as they behave going forward.

They should at least have to pay fines that equal the cost of repairing the damage.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

The fine for graffiti vandalism is a minimum of $500.

Have any of you guys in your life done graffiti or did some kind of damage to property??? - Count me as a Yes on both --- not something I remember proudly but I didn't deserve jail either ---

While my great uncle was painting my great grand parent's house, I threw black cherries on a finished part of the wall. I didn't do jail time, however, my great uncle busted my ass with a belt until I wet myself. My parents said I deserved it. After that I don't recall putting any graffiti on private and/or government property.

Although jail time is probably not warranted in this case, a hefty fine (reimbursement costs) and community service is most definitely warranted!

They don't deserve any jail time especially if they are first time offenders but they should have to pay for it and pay for the inconvenience of folks having to go through the trouble of repairing it.
They all should have to do community service too.

Bet you were not 21 years old either when you did it.
Your upbringing probably was the reason you wouldn't have done this at their age. I have no clue to their upbringing but I'd bet they never got their butt busted growing up or any "severe" punishments for wrongdoing either.

In "my day" (grew up in 60s and 70s) it was called discipline, today it's called child abuse. There were times, while growing up, I was full of "piss and vinegar" (still a little mischievous today - by nature). Getting my butt kicked from time to time never ruined me. As a matter of fact it helped me to work hard and respect others.

As far as these ladies go, yes, they messed up. Does that mean they were never disciplined at home? No, it doesn't. They messed up. I'm sure they will pay for their mistake and learn from it. However, like WV said, jail time is probably not warranted.
