John Warren Geils, Jr, better known to most of us as the lead singer and guitarist of the J. Geils Band, is dead at age 71. (How scary is that?) Geils started his long career as a musician in the late 60s and founded the band that still carries his name in early 70s Boston, Mass.

By the mid-80s the band was making a run as a top draw attraction. Having a rock classic like "Centerfold" in their catalog didn't hurt! IIRC, the band did a couple of gigs in Varsity Gym back in MTV days.

Slipped me notes under the desk
While I was thinkin' about her dress
I was shy I turned away
Before she caught my eye

I was shakin' in my shoes
Whenever she flashed those baby-blues
Something had a hold on me
When angel passed close by

Those soft and fuzzy sweaters
Too magical to touch
To see her in that negligee
Is really just too much

CHORUS
My blood runs cold
My memory has just been sold
Angel is the centerfold
My angel is the centerfold
