Does anyone live in Philadelphia? PhillyApp's name suggest he/she does or at least did.

Planning a trip there in a few weeks and had a few questions.

Yo, thanks for the quick reply.

Wife and I are taking a 25th anniversary trip to Philly in early August.

Already have tixs to Phillies hosting Marlins. Plan on the Zoo as well, and most likely spend a day with the history stuff.

Not surprisingly, if you read my posts, we are taking Amtrak both ways and have a hotel nearish Logan Square/Circle.

Thoughts on transit system? I certainly am pro-subway as a general rule but was wondering about bus/subway/streetcars.

Anything we should do that is not so obvious, including anthing out of town that can be gotten to by SEPTA? And your thoughts on the best cheesesteak?

We have about 5 days in Philly.

Walking and subway are fine
Use common sense, if it feels wrong dont go there but 99% of the city are great.
Do not go to North Philly .
Logan circle is awesome.
The best cheesesteaks are in local pizza places.
The zoo, art museum, city hall, university of Pennsylvania, south street, Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross house, Independence Hall, Market street market.

What is considered North Philly?

I spent 3 weeks in NYC last summer. I loved it.

Best to use common sense of course but lots of Manhatten has gentrified. I was not sure about Philly as much.

Oh, west of University of Pennsylvania is not good either. Just stay where others are around and don't look like a likely victim ... ie be alert and confident.
Philly people are nice, especially if you can take a joke.
Don't go to Pats or Geno's...
For a great authentic south philly dinner, reserve a table at Victor's Cafe on Christian street....they sing opera as you eat... its in an old row house ... take note some tables are reserved. Lol

The very well trained Methodist Hospital is just down the street... Just in case... Lol
One of my best friends dad was the chief surgeon at Methodist... Can you imagine the pressure on him.
The food is amazing. Atmosphere awesome.

I got my Master's at West Chester State and toured Philadelphia quite a bit. Rent a car and tour Gettysburg Battlefield. You'll love the zoo.

Soooo, Yo Mc'Appfan, if you find that you two have an extra day on your hands, I know how you can get some sand on your feet. Atlantic City, The Boardwalk, the Steel Pier, the new Hard Rock Cafe, Hotel & Casino (the old Taj Mahal plus a just completed $500 mil redesign), the historic Absecon Lighthouse, the A. City Aquarium, et al, are just an hour and ten or twelve minutes away from "Independence Mall and the Old City."

Never spend all your money in the same place! That was e-z-r 2 say than 2 do.

Seriously, as a scientist and science teacher, you'd appreciate the 160-year-old, first-order, custom-made-in-Paris, fresnel lens in the lighthouse--capable of reflecting a kerosene-flame light more than 19 miles into the Atlantic. Oh, and the 225+ steps up to the light level make for a challenging workout.

I had not thought about Atlantic City and that is not a bad idea especially the lighthouse.

15 years ago my wife and I visited the casino near Tampa. We drive 30 min from my in-laws. Spent 10-15 finding a parking spot. Walked around the casino floor for 15 min and played slots for about 10 minutes. I was up $80 or so and my wife was up about $20. We lost a few dollars and I decided to stop. We drove to Costco where knew they had the hardback volumes of the complete Far Side on sale for about what our winnings were. I felt like it was a great day. I know I spent more time finding a parking spot than I did gambling. Casinos hate me. (I do stay at the horse races longer and usually just break even.

Not sure if the Amtrak derailment made the news in NC but that was our train.

All is fine beyond delay. I am sending this from train just south of Wilmington, DE

Hey if you guys like history the Revolutionary War museum is really cool.
Also a good anniversary meal would be Parc Restaurant at Rittenhouse Square area. A little pricey but worth it.

At the Phillies game and I guessed the attendance within 37. 33737 was actual.

Next I shall guess App attendance at UNCC game.
