Bad Decision, WCS
It is certainly understandable for Watauga County Schools to cancel classes today due to the inclement weather BUT.... to schedule a Saturday make up date on THIS Saturday is unthinkable! Don’t they know local students and parents may have other plans Saturday.... oh, I don’t know... I think there is a football game in town..kind of a big deal. There may be additional traffic.

Haven’t thought about that. That is a bad call. That is going to make traffic really bad Saturday morning and school releasing around kickoff time. Hopefully this gets changed. Seems really early in the year to schedule Saturday school anyway

Students can miss. Teachers are the ones who should be pissed.

At least the high school is on 421 now and not in the middle of town

Wish there would be better communication between ASU and Public Schools. Lots of implications with this decision. Release of elementary schools is 12 noon, kickoff as previously posted. The high school release is 1:00 pm as I understand it. Which means school buses mixing with traffic. Parents who have purchased and promised game events now have to decide on school or no school. Teachers in tough spot. Maybe there is room/time for further considerations. Hope so....

Reminder: Things do not revolve around App Football.
The school calendar has been approved since December of 2017.
If they said f-it app is playing, then they would have to cut this semester short.
They can't have Saturday school on a week that they have gone 5 days.
There are no other days before the end of the calendar year to make up the date.
We still have winter to go through and are behind on days from the hurricane.

That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Re: Bad Decision, WCS
Spare me. It’s not that apocalyptic, and the school builds in other options as well. No one knows what any winter will bring, but I doubt the state will shut down the school system for not using one particular Saturday, and it’s the school year, not the calendar year that matters. In even a worst case scenario, the state forgives days as long as the districts make the effort to make up as many days as they reasonably can. You don’t see WCS going after certain scheduled days off. Of course students should get in their class time, but going on days like THIS Saturday, will actually discourage attendance, thus defeating the purpose.appgrouch wrote: ↑Tue Nov 27, 2018 10:25 amReminder: Things do not revolve around App Football.

Update:
Due to a significant number of school and community conflicts, Watauga County Schools will NOT hold the Saturday school session originally scheduled. wataugaonline.com/closingscancel…
