Terrible news. It has been a very violent year in CLT so far. 4 murders now in the last 24 hours. 2 on South Blvd and 2 at UNCC. We will exceed last years homicide rate by July. This is insane.

Seems like I hear gunshots about every other night where I live. It’s pretty sad.

Heartbreaking and senseless. I know I pretend to be a jerk, but folks need to start loving one another.

My wife just heard from 5 of her former students who are currently at UNCC, one of whom is a close family friend, and thankfully they are OK, shaken, but OK. Prayers for those kids and their families.

Yeah, so as I have stated here before, I have worked with UNCC over the last 5 years and this shook me. Thank God I do not work on campus as much as I used to, as I was frequently walking on campus and visited these buildings and breezeways often. I reached out to my contacts that work on campus to ensure they were OK. They were, but were very shook up over this.
I pray that this stuff gets addressed better by authorities. As history shows us, there are warning signs and even good intel on these individuals who “snap” and due to current laws, you can’t do anything proactive. I work with youth from elementary all the way up to high school, and *just my perspective* a lot of these kids are being raised in environments where real discipline is an after thought and if you don’t get your way, you yell and scream until someone gives you what you want. I’m sure everyone has an opinion about it, but the best thing we can do is get involved with youth organizations or take advantage of coaching opportunities/interactions and teach these kids life skills. I have taken opportunities to talk to groups of kids, utilized my coaching positions, and worked with youth in different capacities and tried to teach kids life skills, consequences of actions (good and bad), proper etiquette etc. You just never know how your interactions, big or small, could help develop these kids in positive ways.

Sorry for the rant, this just hits home and makes me reflect on what purpose God has for me. Prayers to families and personnel involved.

We are still trying to protect kids with signs on doors instead of like everything else we deem important.

Hate the people who do this and the fact they don’t value life. This dbag was smiling as he was going into the PD.

Our son was a student at NYU on 9/11 about two blocks from the World Trade Center. I completely understand the feelings of the parents, family, and friends waiting to hear some sort of news. All involved have my heartfelt sympathy and prayers for a restful night, even though rest will be hard to come by. Hang in there, Charlotte. We've got you covered in the prayer department.
If serving is beneath you, then leading is beyond you.

Just sad, got to be a way to stop this. Getting tired of it. Prayers out to families that lost people and prayers to those fighting to live.

There are ways to stop it, but when politics are involved, it's just not going to happen. My dad was in law enforcement for 32+ years and I am close with the CMPD all the way up to Chief Putney.... You guys can't imagine how "handcuffed" our law enforcement is in this country. Same with schools etc. People joke about the "PC culture" being the root of problems, but it is serious.....

Terrible and unacceptable. Yes, I am praying for and thinking of the families involved, especially for those who lost loved ones but that's not enough. We need to have a real conversation about what has changed in our society from when I was a kid. Honest discussion with plans to address all the causes of this increasing violence. Everything needs to be on the table; guns, mental health, law enforcement, how we teach our children values, the political discourse and the loss of decency and the capacity to care one iota for another person. And when the discussion is had, actions need to be taken to change our culture. The current path is not sustainable. I was listening to ESPN in driving to an appointment for work when they broke in to cover the Sandy Hook murders. My son was the same age as those kids at the time. I became so emotional, I had to pull over and throw up.....still, nothing changed.

It is not a priority, and until it is this will go on.
