With this being the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 and the first man on the moon it's sad that NASA has lost Chris Kraft. He was flight director on the Mercury missions and some Gemini missions. His pioneering spirit built NASA and led it through a lot of good times and sadly some tragic times.

So true. My students used to think I was ancient when I'd tell them that I've watched all the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions.

Yes to our generation he was The Man - even more so to my wife as she is from the same neighborhood, Phoebus, in Hampton as well as graduates of Hampton HS. She used to take me out by Langley AFB and show me the NASA areas - Hampton changed the name of their main freeway to Mercury Blvd. and the bridges were named after the original astronauts - she said they would often see some of them "flying around" in their Corvette convertibles, etc.
