Re: John McKissik
Coach McKissick was a true legend. He last so long because not only did he adapt to changing times but most of the administrators that ran the school district or were principals were at one time hired by him as assistant coaches. I had the good fortune to meet him at football camps at St. Andrews and at Wingate. His legacy will be very hard to beat. RIP Coach
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: John McKissik
I’m a Summerville native and still live there. We lost the cornerstone of our town today with coach’s passing. Tremendous coach and even better man. He will be missed greatly. Coaching for six decades at one high school is hard to imagine.
Football was once so big in Summerville that while I was in high school in the late 70’s the mayor canceled Halloween because it fell on a Friday night and conflicted with a home game. Trick or treat was moved to Saturday night. Of course, times have changed since those days and high school football doesn’t attract the crowds it once did.
