Family Friend To Be Honored At Super Bowl

Unread post by WataugaMan » Sun Feb 02, 2020 12:23 pm

Family friend Sam Lombardo will be honored during pre-game at today's Super Bowl. My wife and I received an e-mail from her father this morning:

" Sam Lombardo, a former member of our MWF Group, along with three other 100 year old WWII veterans will be honored at the Super Bowl this evening. Their recognition will be just before the tossing of the coin before kick off. Sam is representing the Army and will be standing near the Army Flag. TV coverage of the Super Bowl starts at 1830 hours. Sam received the silver star during the Battle of the Bulge. He immigrated from Italy when he was a young boy."

I was thinking about skipping the game. Just can’t get into it this year. I’ll at least watch this.

Sam was second man going left to right, looking good at 100.

Didn't even have to open the video to get goosebumps. I wish we as a country could just stop and reflect at all those who have gone before us to protect the freedoms we have. They came from every corner of this great land United with the purpose of protecting their homes and families. It is so much bigger than the nonsense we bicker about these days. Thank you Sam.

Thanks for this post and thanks to all our Vets.
I have a special place in my heart for WWII vets, not many of them left now, also my father was a WWII vet.

Video would not open for me as it said something about being blocked by the NFL.

Yes thanks for letting us know about this - I didn't care much about the game but I did tune in to see these men honored!!! - Those of us a certain age had fathers, uncles and others who served in WWII - In fact, my Dad would have been 100 this week.

After you click on link, look for "Watch on YouTube" link at top, hit that and you should be able to view the video. Sam was sitting in back of "golf cart", holding the hand of Colonel McGee. Sam looks very healthy at age 100, as a matter of fact it appears he put on a little weight. He's always been physically active. :)

The below clip was filmed a few years back when Sam was 97. If you have time, listen to some of his adventures/stories. I always enjoyed sipping a few cold ones while listening to him tell stories of his life (particularly the stories of the War), interesting.
