I forced the family to take something besides I-40 home from Southport last month. So we ended up going through Chatham County around lunch time and found a small diner in Gulf. I went in and picked up the food and we ate in the car and sat by the train tracks and there was a nice sign about him there and a large mural on one of the buildings in the downtown business district, if you want to call it that. It was a nice little gesture to a person that I doubt had the time or possibly desire to visit that small town.

This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Re: RIP Charlie Daniels
My personal favorite for what it's worth:
While The Charlie Daniels Band had numerous hits and remained a staple in Country music radio, his most enduring hit was a tale of a young man named Johnny who challenged the devil to a fiddle-playing contest and came away with a violin made of gold.
“The Devil Went Down to Georgia” was No. 1 on the country charts in 1979 and No. 3 on the pop charts. It was voted single of the year by the Country Music Association.

Re: RIP Charlie Daniels
Does anyone recall if Charlie Daniels performed at ASU over the years. I am guessing that he did. Maybe someone remembers attending a concert in Boone to see him.
