Since the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, professional baseball players have been permitted to play and the South Korean team that was formed was often called the "Korean Dream Team".McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 9:49 amIs that college students vs Korean pros or Korean college students?Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 9:39 amUnited States beats South Korea to reach baseball gold-medal game... awesome.

Re: Olympic sports too brutal to watch
I love our flag and always will but national pride has tailed off with the introduction of pro athletes into the Olympics. All this protest crap has just accelerated it. The real excitement is gone for many. Look at the numbers of viewers down 40 -60%. They are adding all this other nonsense like skateboarding to try and increase interest and it isn't working.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 6:12 pmLet’s only invite the US, China and Russia…
Some bad ideas in this thread, but you’ve won that prize.
The lack of national pride is one of the most troubling aspects of today’s society.
I love seeing our flag and hearing our anthem upon winning gold. Am I now in the minority or will the silent majority speak up before it too late.
Go USA!

A 12-hour time difference, COVID and crappy replay times have more to do with loss of viewership than anything.

I have not looked at the US roster and don't have time and too lazy to remember but is the US team college/minor league/major league. I assume the Bigs are not releasing players to play in the Olympics.Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 10:08 amSince the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, professional baseball players have been permitted to play and the South Korean team that was formed was often called the "Korean Dream Team".McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 9:49 amIs that college students vs Korean pros or Korean college students?Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 9:39 amUnited States beats South Korea to reach baseball gold-medal game... awesome.

Re: Olympic sports too brutal to watch
Yes, as you said above. I have not followed full roster but know some recent former MLB players on team. I know one former Heel and Rockies player (believe Rockies was one of his teams), Tim Fed....(long last name to lazy to look up)...is on team..not sure of any others.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 2:11 pmI have not looked at the US roster and don't have time and too lazy to remember but is the US team college/minor league/major league. Just flipped it on the Olympics. Power walking or whatever you call it, is the most brutal.
Hands down. End of discussion.

Canoe sprinting. Give me 4 years of fully subsidized training and I could make some noise. Not because it’s easy (I’m sure it isn’t), but instead there have to be what, 1000 people in the world who compete at a high level? The odds are in your favor.

I am afraid there is more to it than that. Not sure what covid has to do with it and there have been greater time differences like 13 hrs in South Korea. I think folks being sick of protests and stupid events play a pretty significant role.

Re: Olympic sports too brutal to watch
My viewing has nothing to do with protest or anything other than knowing most of the results BEFORE it airs on tape delay. I watched all the swimming live because those races were not already run but things like gymnastics and other sports that I usually watch I did not because I had already seen the results online. I know some people can watch sports when they know the outcome but it just takes the fun of it out for me. Sadly, in this digital age it will result in less viewers.

Re: Olympic sports too brutal to watch
I agree on the idea of knowing results before watching. I end up watching events that I did not know results. Last week, watched ladies day bike race since did not know the outcome.
Maybe I am thinking about this differently as it relates to covid. With people working from home, seems more people would have opportunity to watch 24/7 with TV on in background..if not working and collecting whatever amount to not work each week, one has even more time to watch.
