If you want more background, goggle Holodomor.

Or use a better search engine...yahoo.

Since this thread is no longer of value to the original post I have to ask, do you prefer yahoo over bing? If so why?

I fully realize that, but you just blew it.

Haven't seen traces of Bing in years. Bing used to take over and made it difficult to get rid of. Yahoo doesn't do that. Google carries too many advertising links compared to Yahoo. Plus the Yahoo site has very good current news. Yahoo is my home page.

I uh... this is.. uh... i don't know what to say...

FYI Cline, Yahoo search is 100% powered by Bing. So you get the same results if you use Bing or Yahoo. Only difference is Yahoo is way more invasive and way less secure. This is why the older generation gets hit so hard with cyber attacks.

Whatever you say boss. After all, you are one of the geniuses on this board. As far as powered by Bing, for me, it carries no resemblance to the old Bing which had cookies or something which took over and pushed out the other search engines. Talking about insecure, it (Bing) really was invasive. If Yahoo is negatively invasive, I haven't seen a sign of it being so. I've used Yahoo (especially the same email address for going on 20 years or more) and its home page basically ever since 1998 when I first got a recycled HP computer for 75 bucks from Computer Renaissance in the Arboretum. Naturally it was dial up and you could only use a single click mouse. Yahoo works well for me, but when I have a concern about security (which I do not on this board run by computer geniuses), I use Duck Duck Go or whatever it is called in spite of it's slowness. Yahoo search links carry very very very few ads (unless i need to for some particular purpose) when I do a search. Google over whelming does to the point I get fed up with gambling sites every time I search anything about college sports as well as ads for merchandise for the West Virginia Mountaineers and mountain breweries.
In short, you use google, gaggle, giggle, goggle, google all you want. Yahoo works great for me, always has.

Since i have used Microsoft Defender and before that Microsoft Security Essentials I have had absolutely no problem with viruses or malware, ransom ware, or anything resembling those. I don't know anything about cyber attacks. I'll leave that up to you computer geniuses. As far as older stuff, my ex-wife uses aol for searches and email. She is a professional Christian fiction writer.

As far as Cline is concerned, I bet it galls your crotch to see me use it in my signature since you can't dig me about it. Like water off a duck's back.
Happy St Patrick's Day.

Dang, all I wanted to do was add depth to the Ukraine discussion by asking people to “search” the word Holodomor. I use goggle as a generic term.

Don’t worry too much about it guys. I’m sure that when the CCP takes over Taiwan they will fix all those computer chips so
we can only use the “correct” search engine. Freedom is so hard, it will be great to have all the major decisions made for us.

For alternatives to MySpace for social media, do you guys prefer Friendster or SixDegrees?

Well, much to you guys' pleasure, I will stay out of this discussion because I don't even know what MySpace, Friendster, or SixDegrees are. Probably don't need to know either.

They are too new -- they don't work on outdated browsers and search engines.

My browser is not out dated, I don't think. It is Opera which one other member of this forum uses and that person is pretty computer savvy. But anyway...

Not outdated and Opera do not belong in the same sentence...

I first heard about it on here less than two years ago. Anyway, I'm not the only one on here who uses it. One said not to get it, when I was considering installing it and one seems to like it. It works for me except I can't get my local paper's on line edition.

Good grief, I just researched it...Opera was initially released on April 10, 1995 and was first publicly released in 1996 with version 2.10, which ran on Microsoft Windows 95. Opera began development of its first browser for mobile device platforms in 1998.

You are right, it really is old. Really old.
