I think we can narrow that list to a Top One.

Had some Texas brisket Monday at the Hard-Eight in Coppell, TX. Not on the list but they have open wood pits!

There you have it! No doubt in my mind.
I have eaten at BB's in KC and Central in Memphis. Neither as good as the Monk but I am definately biased.

You kidding me? Those places in Brooklyn, NY and Detroit need to be taken off the list. And no, I haven't eaten there.

Cooper's isn't even the best in Raleigh. Good, but not the best. Probably the best history, though. The best used to be the BBQ Lodge, but I don't know anymore. Regardless, neither are half as good as Blackbeard's, just outside of Tarboro.

I've heard really good things about Slows in Detroit. I'll agree about Brooklyn, Vegas, Chicago, and even Detroit, on principle alone though. How can a place with a French name, in Brooklyn no less, be considered destination BBQ?

There are a lot of places here in the Atlanta area that make pretty good BBQ but very few can make a decent vinegar based cole slaw. Hard to make a good sammich without good cole slaw.

Yep ... and not that goopy white slaw either.

Stamey's - Grensboro
They need some love. And they do the slaw right, too. None of that mayo garbage.

I still love College BBQ in Salisbury. I never miss getting a sandwich there when I visit...with a cold Cheerwine! It hasn't changed much since I was in high school 40+ years ago.

And I could have said College BBQ as well!!! It's just I had a BBQ salad at Richard's last.

Two little known but very good spots are Cooks off #8 south of Lexington and Smiley's on #8 north just off Business 85.

Good choices. Both still wood smoke in their pits. Cook's also has some pretty good brisket and Smiley's has some good BBQ chicken.
