Soccer IS for everybody. The only people who like sports but don’t like soccer have never given soccer a real chance. I was one of those people. Once I started watching, I fell in love with the game. It’s exciting, tactically interesting, and simple to understand. You just have to get your mind set right about what you are watching. Just like you can’t go into a baseball game with the same mindset as watching a basketball game.

I’m kidding. I hate soccer, but I’ll admit, it’s pretty cool when the whole world locks in on a tournament. In the past, I’ve been in other countries when it’s going on, and it’s cool to see how intense people get.
It’s not possible for me to care any less, and I won’t be watching or keeping up with it… but of course go USA.

It's one of those sports I have to be playing or coaching, otherwise I just get bored watching. I've always thought the field was too long. Take 20 yards off for a little more action towards the goals.

I tend to pull for non-european nations.

Most soccer games are like a 3-0 (last second FG) football game where neither team gets into scoring range. One of my sons loves it and when he's home there might be a game on. I've stepped out of the room for long stretches of time and returned to the same nil-nil game. That being said the big tournaments can be exciting with the stakes involved. Go USA!

USA’s first match vs Wales is critical to advancing, we need 3 there.

I’ll cheer for the U.S.A. until they bow out of the group stage. From that point on…it’s coming home.

American Football - six seconds of rah, rah, bang 'em up, big hit, etc. Then 25-40 seconds of ho-hum, what play will we run next, why didn't we run it, why didn't we throw it, I need another beer, etc.

Soccer - constant movement, passing, dribbling, shifting, pressure, turnovers, slide tackles, etc. When a goal is scored it is exciting because of all that led up to it. It's not about the number of goals, it's what goes on in between. A beautiful game.

I love both.

Brazil are the strongest team especially with all the injuries to France. Honestly I’d love to see Portugal or Argentina to win it. As one that’s always kind of refused to take a side in the debate to enjoy the greatness of both, it would be neat to see either cap off their historic careers with a World Cup.

I’m also a massive Luis Suarez fan so I’d like to see Uruguay make a little run.

I’ll be thrilled if the US makes it out of this group. Second youngest team in the field.

Yeah football and American football are by far my two favorite sports at this point in my life.

What's the over under on players getting their left shoulder grazed, falling down to and writhing in pain holding their right foot, stopping the entire flow of the game to get carted off, and then jumping off said cart like nothing happened as soon as they're on the sidelines?

Oh, and all of this happening with an arbitrary game clock. "uh, I think he was down for about 5 minutes, but I really like the other team... So, let's add 8 minutes to give them a chance"

This is why I do not "love" futbol...just like it during World Cup. Personally, feel like there should be penalty kicks for these shenanigans. Let the game play on while the booth reviews. Next throw in....they can have the penalty kick....and ...on to the "sideline throw ins" (or whatever called). You got 5 seconds or less or other team gets thrown in. If your player cannot fight to get throw in..you do not deserve the ball.

But your main point above is why I will not watch futbol for an extended period of time. It ruins the game and no one can convince me otherwise..

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how sensitive soccer fans are when someone says they don’t like, or hate the sport. Blows my mind.

I love baseball, some people hate baseball, and say it’s boring. Does it bother me? No, it is what it is.

Tell a soccer fan you hate soccer, watch them get bent all out of shape telling you, “you don't understand the game” and “Whats wrong with you?!? It’s the most popular sport in the world!!” As if that is supposed to change my mind.

If you ever DVR'd or taped a football game on your old VCR and watched it back later to include fast forwarding through the downtime between plays and the commercials you really get a sense of how little action there really is. I remember doing this many years ago and I watched the whole game in like 20 minutes (or less). It's brutal being at a game and seeing the time out clock guy flash up the 3:00 deal. All sports have their boring aspects. I've gotten a little more into hockey but I think I prefer a 5-4 game or any win by the Canes. Hockey probably has the best overtime method.

At least soccer has the running clock and the game generally won't last forever.
