There's been some discussion on here in the past about our seemingly reduced standards of admissions. This article points out exactly why those standards have been reduced. We are at least fortunate that our Powers That Be recognized the nationwide problem of declining applicants to colleges and were proactive enough to make sure our admissions have not fallen off the cliff. I can't imagine having a 25% reductions in admissions over a 5 year period and nothing being done to address it, talk about administrators being asleep at the wheel.

This is only the beginning.

Kids, especially young men, are waking up to the fact that college is too expensive, not directly beneficial to a successful career and filled with required classes that bring no value. Administrators & faculty would be wise to review what they offer at what price and what message is communicating to their students and the person paying for their time at that instituion.

A reinvention of the system is long overdue.

I suppose the students protesting the cuts in staff are willing to pay 25% extra in tuition to make up for the reduced enrollment?

If they become employees I fully expect scholarships to go away. You pay your own tuition at that point. In the long run this could end up cheaper for schools that shelling out for yearly scholarships. I think what you will see more of isn't colleges getting rid of programs, but more athletes skipping college to play in minor leagues or overseas.

Independant contractor is not going to fly for them. There are requirements and no athletic program could function with them. Because of these requirements independant contractor is slowly going away in many cases.
The vast majority of schools will be forced to drop programs if they become employees and APP most probably is going to be one of them.

UNCA has a new chancellor, and I think we are up to 5 so far/upcoming in about the last 6 months.

One would think that Title IX would also be affected. If you are hiring for 85 football player positions, that is different from offering scholarships. Since professors, maintenance staff, admin and others do not have a 50/50 female to male requirement, it's possible that Athletic teams also would not have the requirement.

Interesting how UNCA is considering eliminating adjunct faculty, yet no consideration is given to dumping the university leadership that stood by and did nothing while this mess spiraled.

Get a trade… I’ve said it for years now. I’m a GC and all my trades are in their mid late forties . There’s no one behind them. You’ll be able to name your price. Yeah it’s hard work but it’ll be worth it.

UNCA and WCU should just combine into one school. Move it all to the Whee.

Skyrocketing tuition, lowering admission standards, highly politicized faculty and staff, paying athletes by whomever is the highest bidder, insular bubble like environments, etc, etc, etc....what could go wrong? It's a house of cards, and as others have mentioned-this is just the beginning.
