Gene Hackman, the Oscar-winning actor whose gruff but soulful turns in classics such as “The French Connection,” “The Conversation” and “Unforgiven” made him one of the most respected performers in Hollywood, died Wednesday.

He was 95.

He was found dead alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 64, a classical pianist, and the couple's dog, the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office.

"Foul play is not suspected as a factor in those deaths at this time however exact cause of death has not been determined. This is an active and ongoing investigation by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office," the statement said.

This entire story is sad, death always is but this one is different than others. His wife and dog along with him???? Sure reeks of a planned death for the couple, but why the dog? I mean, how hard is it to find someone to care for a dog after your dead. There is a lot more to this story that I doubt we will ever know.

My mind wandered that way as well but I also thought maybe CO2 poisoning. Unfortunately it will come out eventually.

They had said no foul play, so most are guessing carbon monoxide.

He was found in the mud room and she was found in another room with a pill bottle. Dog was left in kennel and probably starved to death. Apparently they hadn't been seen for a good while (couple of weeks).
