Lembo to Wake Forest

Unread post by midlandchip » Fri Dec 06, 2013 2:13 pm

For those App State fans that would like to play Wake Forest, you just may get the chance in the near future. Rumor has it Pete Lembo of Ball State is interviewing for the Wake Forest job, or I should say rumor has it a representative of Wake Forest recently flew to Muncie to interview Lembo. He was at Elon and knows the SoCon well. During interviews as head coach at Ball State I listened to him make positive comments about App State more than once. I think he would be open to playing ASU. He has done a great job at Ball State in that he turned the program around in a short time. I'm sure hopes are high he would be able to do the same at Wake Forest. Once again, the MAC loses another winning coach. I don't like to spread rumors but I can see this one having some legs and it just might happen.

All the knee-brace vendors to the ACC will be pulling for this to happen.

I have heard this rumor from a Deacon fan as well. I hope Lembo gets hired. The rivalry between WFU & ASU should continue!!!

I STILL remember that game at WFU when they went for two with 7 seconds remaining and got stuffed on the 3 yd line by our DT, Avery Hall. Woooo-hoooo!!! The result of the game was that App won by 1.

Guess once again I am in the minority opinion.
Was happy for Lembo to leave the area, and hoped it was for good.

Lembo is a pretty good coach, and recruited well especially for Elon
considering what they had previously. Just do not want to play his
team and have half a dozen players having operations because of that.

If he was to hire Riddle, bet we would get to see his dad again. Joy.

no one has ever question Lembo's coaching ability, I cant remember him losing a game because of poor coaching, it was his lack of maturity and sportsmanship of his teams that was always in question. Ive seen a couple of Ball State games this year, specifically watching to see if any of his players committed any cheap shots, and to his credit they played a clean ball game with no controversy, maybe he has matured, and has quit that cheap shit.

It's not a rumor. WXII-TV reported yesterday on the 11 PM News that Wake AD Ron Wellman spent Wed. and Thurs. in Muncie--presumably to interview Lembo. It was the lead story. In addition, both the Fort Wayne News-Star and the Muncie Journal-Gazette have reported the Wellman-Lembo collaboration. Wake officials, in the meantime, have smugly declined to comment on "personnel matters."

Never had any respect for Lembo. Agree with you completely.

I just don't have any respect for his strategy and tolerance for repeated intentional late-hits and cheap shots to injure opposing players out of frustration and desperation. If you want to win, do it the right way. Sorry, I never want us to play a team he coaches ever again. No thanks. Not worth it. Next.

I know Lembo has been winning in the MAC, but I'm curious if there are any fans of MAC teams that have the same complaint about Lembo as we do.

I'll add something else to the Lembo mix - I have a cousin who played for Elon back in the 70s and has been a head coach in Texas and Florida - he played with the hated Riddle dad and they are friends so he saw several games when Riddle was the QB - the real problem that he had (and other former players) with Lembo was the obvious lack of discipline within his own ranks - many wanted him gone even though he was putting out winning teams ---

I have only heard positive comments about Lembo on the CMU message boards. I think CMU fans would take Lembo in a minute over the head coach we now have. And the dislike for the guy that I am picking up in this thread is a real surprise to me. I started the thread because I thought most of you would be glad to see him at Wake Forest due to his positive comments about the SoCon and App State.

midlandchip, you got to understand our past relationship with Lembo, while he was in the SC, his teams crossed the line in terms of good sportsmanship, not only in the App games but also with the other SC teams, it seem almost every week that there was some kind of controversy, a fight, dirty hits, inappropriate celebrations, and not only he didn't put a stop to it, but he also seemed to turn a blind eye. Now to be fair, no one ever doubted his coaching ability, his teams were always prepared, and its good to see that his time at Ball State there were no issues, to me that was a sign of maturity, and he has become a complete coach, I assume you are a Wake Forest fan, you guys are getting a very good coach, hope we can starting playing you guys again.

Thanks for the input. I'm like most on here, I think Lembo is a great football coach. But when it comes to the other stuff, I'm on the fence.

Thanks for all your input - I enjoy reading thoughts from those who are not as involved as we are in the day to day APP happenings --- It's nice to read objective thoughts and opinions ---
Personally I believe Lembo and his team cost us our 4th and 5th consecutive National Championships - both Elon games those years Armanti was taken out by cheap shots to his knees - He was the best player in the country and he never returned to where he was before Elon each of those two years ---

Anyone remember Dave Clawson? Looks like he's the next guy at WFU.
