Well, the team currently calling Baltimore hoe has arrived...
I like what the writer did (including the ole Browns years), but I have to admit. I expected more from a team that has been around since 1894 (started as the original Milwaukee Brewers). C, 2B, most of the OF and even pitching. Just looking at this list tells you a tone of why the Browns/Orioles claim only 3 WS titles (all between 1966 and 1983).
Really, Hoiles goes down as the best C season ever for the Orioles?

I can't argue with much of that list. In fact the only notable miss I see is not including Jim Johnson's 2012 season for at least consideration in the relievers.
And yes, the best offensive catcher the O's ever had was Hoiles, with Tettleton in second. Weiters could top the list someday, if he ever turns into the offensive player he was projected. Oh, and if he remains an Oriole past next season.

I witnessed many of the all-time great Orioles up close as many started their professional career with the Class D Bluefield Orioles --- The best I ever saw at that level was Boog Powell --- I worked the dugouts and bullpens while as a kid --- Some others I saw were Don Baylor, Bobby Grich, Mark Belanger - I swear I took batting practice with Belanger on occasion and I could hit better than him (he was about 17 then I guess and I was about 15 - of course, it was that glove-thing that made a huge difference and he got much better as a hitter - Billy Hunter was the manager for several years and he was absolutely a showman even then --- I was gone by the time Cal Ripken Jr came along ---

I saw Cal, Jr.in Bluefield, Strawberry in Kingsport and Fydrich in Bristol. Used to love going to the Appalachian League games.WVAPPeer wrote:I witnessed many of the all-time great Orioles up close as many started their professional career with the Class D Bluefield Orioles --- The best I ever saw at that level was Boog Powell --- I worked the dugouts and bullpens while as a kid --- Some others I saw were Don Baylor, Bobby Grich, Mark Belanger - I swear I took batting practice with Belanger on occasion and I could hit better than him (he was about 17 then I guess and I was about 15 - of course, it was that glove-thing that made a huge difference and he got much better as a hitter - Billy Hunter was the manager for several years and he was absolutely a showman even then --- I was gone by the time Cal Ripken Jr came along ---

While I may not be a huge Orioles fan, I will say that the human vacuum cleaner (Brooks) and biog man at 1B (Boog) were my favorites.
Or at least until they beat my Reds in the '70 series...
Did Brooksie really make those plays??
