The Carolina Way!

Former UNC-CH basketball player and National Champion** Rashad McCants is set to drop the bomb on UNC and the academic scandal. Story is on ESPN.com and story is set to air today at 3pm on Outside The Lines. As if we needed more proof. To date this makes the 4TH former UNC-CH athlete to confirm this.
Unfortunately, if there is a way to sweep it under the rug this time, the NCAA will do it. They will do anything in their power to keep the baby blue boys clean. As many have said before the level of corruption at UNC-CH is unlike anything we can imagine.

In the meantime, the UNC-CH message board is in full melt down mode, and it is quite entertaining to watch. Many threads have been locked and deleted and the excuses are flying. Enjoy!

Boom!! How do you explain that one, Roy? Let's see, FB coach, AD and Chancellor have all left, not to mention the whistle blower. That leaves Roy. Doesn't look good for the BB coach.

Will leadership wake up, step up, and make some tough decisions to right the ship, or continue on their voyage deeper into self deception? A defining moment is here, on many different fronts, at UNC and across the world of college sports. Who will step up and be a leader and put athletics into their proper place? Sadly, failure to act may only lead to others (perhaps political bodies) making the tough decisions.

yep, another embarrassment, but you guys are right, the NCAA will not touch them, nor will anyone at the state level. Whats really funny is McCants actually made the honor roll one semester based on his bogus grades.

Another day, another scandalous revelation at UNC Chapel Hill. I would still be surprised if the NCAA batted an eyelash, let alone killed their athletics as they deserve. They will carry on as if they weren't responsible for the biggest academic fraud scandal in history, taking a disproportionate amount of taxpayer money to fund their desperate PR campaign and offer their students any course under the sun. Meanwhile App State and the rest of the UNC system are left fighting for scraps, laying off teachers and cutting programs.

The mother ship -- our moral superiors -- is immune to accountability.

I will not argue that if this were the case for sure then they get what they deserve but if McCant's is your star witness then the credibility of this is so so. He is about as looney as daffy duck. I think he even dabbled in porn movie or something like this.
If a more reliable witness were to step forward then so be it...

Quotes from UNC Bubba and Roy.

The following are statements from University of North Carolina men’s basketball coach Roy Williams and director of athletics Bubba Cunningham regarding today's ESPN story:

UNC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Roy Williams:

“Our players have been deeply hurt over the last couple of years, and again today, by the comments and innuendo concerning their academic achievements. The young men who accepted scholarships to play basketball at this University have done so expecting a world-class basketball experience, in addition to a world-class education. Obviously, we pride ourselves on being one of the top basketball programs in the country, but equally important, in helping our players grow academically and socially, as we promised their parents we would.

Our student-athletes understand the value of a degree from the University of North Carolina and accept their academic responsibilities in earning that degree. They take seriously their efforts to, in some cases, become the first member of their families to graduate from college.

I love them for all they have meant to UNC and to me, and I will continue to believe in and support them.

With respect to the comments made today, I strongly disagree with what Rashad (McCants) has said. In no way did I know about or do anything close to what he says and I think the players whom I have coached over the years will agree with me. I have spent 63 years on this earth trying to do things the right way and the picture he portrays is not fair to the University or me.”

Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham:

“It is disappointing any time a student is dissatisfied with his or her experience. I welcome the opportunity to speak with Rashad McCants about returning to UNC to continue his academic career – just as we have welcomed many former student-athletes interested in completing their degrees.

The University hired former federal prosecutor Kenneth Wainstein in January to conduct an independent investigation into past academic and athletic irregularities. While these are the first allegations we have heard from Mr. McCants, I encourage him to speak with Mr. Wainstein. We are confident Mr. Wainstein’s inquiry will provide us with a full understanding of these issues.

Since becoming Carolina’s director of athletics, I have gotten to know some of Mr. McCants’ teammates, and I know that claims about their academic experience have affected them deeply. They are adamant that they had a different experience at UNC-Chapel Hill than has been portrayed by Mr. McCants and others. I am impressed with their love for Carolina and passion for their education. Several of them have continued to take classes and finish their degrees and all of them are proud of their academic achievements. We, too, are proud of them.”+

I'm sure McCants is more reliable than Roy's and Bubba's statements...
Depending on which side of the curb you stand on.

If you believe that he's lying, then you must believe that his appearance on the 2005 Dean's List is legitimate. I'm not sure which is worse.

McCants just took a dump in the Old Well. The fun now will be watching the Holes claim it was only a Baby Ruth.

(Provided to the Associated Press)

Sixteen players from North Carolina's 2005 national championship team issued the following statement Friday responding to former teammate Rashad McCants' allegations of academic misconduct:

"We are proud of our accomplishments both on and off the floor at UNC. With conviction, each one of us is proud to say that we attended class and did our own academic work. We want to thank our advisers and counselors who supported us, while also maintaining the integrity of the institution. We also want to make it clear that Coach Williams and his staff operated with the highest level of ethics and integrity within their respective roles. We are forever grateful for the lessons we learned on the court, in the classroom and during our time in Chapel Hill.

"In light of the comments made by Rashad on ESPN Outside the Lines, we want to state that our personal academic experiences are not consistent with Rashad's claims. We know that Coach Williams did not have any knowledge of any academic impropriety, and further that Coach Williams would not have tried to manipulate a player's schedule. Rashad will always be our teammate and we wish him well on all of his future endeavors."

What a surprise. I thought they'd all admit that it was true and ask if they could give up their national title.

Amazing isn't it...
We totally believe a documented nut case who said once that going to UNC was like being in jail over 16 other athletes on the same team.
Looks like a hater to me.....

Here you go, AppGrad. I know you've always wanted one. And just like your heroes, you didn't have to attend one single class there to obtain one.
