Herbs tried is still a tool
When is this guy gonna get the economics of football programs? He called out the AD's again today for scheduling these unworthy opponents. He doesn't seem to realize or want to acknowledge that these games are a necessity for both sides.

I don't really get the outrage anyway. It happens in every sport. Try watching college basketball between Thanksgiving and New Year's.

Herbs clueless, has been for years, the ESPN collage day crew is a joke, I don't believe Lee Corso knows where he is at half the time, all he does is act like the clown, and put on some stupid mascot head.

I don't know. Pollock and Howard are pretty good. I agree on Corso. I just hope they don't replace him with Tebow.moehler wrote:Herbs clueless, has been for years, the ESPN collage day crew is a joke, I don't believe Lee Corso knows where he is at half the time, all he does is act like the clown, and put on some stupid mascot head.

He pretty much sucked long before his stroke, his act of putting on the mascots heads, and making little if any intelligent insights has been going on for 20 years.

Re: Herbs tried is still a tool
AppSt94, I would disagree that these are necessary for both sides. It is necessary for the lower level programs, but for the big boys, it is icing on the cake. A 7th or 8th home game. A few million more. With the increasing emphasis on strength of schedule and other factors, the economics is shifting towards fewer and fewer of these games. ADs and Conf Commissioners are already talking about giving them up, others are not talking but will be acting on it.
The gap (gorge) between P5 and G5 is large and is getting larger, and the overlap games will not disappear but they will become fewer in numbers. And the payouts will become less lucrative because G5 will be bidding the price down, and also because the smaller P5 teams (with their smaller budgets) will be the ones playing most of the games against G5 teams (they have no hope of getting in the final four anyway, so strength of schedule is irrelevant). The economics has been shifting, and is continuing to shift, in a direction that isn't in our favor. And its the economics of a cartel not a market, and the members will protect their disproportionate piece of the pie. Not so different than what we see in many segments of the economy.

I think one of the problems is the 12 gme schedule. Herb, though, needs to look at his employer and the games they match up on Labor Day weekend which used to be cupcake weekend.

So, if your surgeon had a frontal lobotomy, would you can him?
Or, what if your pilot on your next flight had alzheimer's, would you get on the plane?
OK, maybe that's a tad harsh, but let's be real. If he's a dotard, he needs to go do something else.
Perhaps the standard here is whether or not he can do his job.

I know you aren't comparing a surgeon to a guy who talks football - he did play college football and coached college football - he has a role to play on the panel and that's what he does and has always done - so they should have fired him after he suffered a stroke? - is that what you mean? ---AppAlum1 wrote:Huh?WVAPPeer wrote:Corso had a stroke - I'm glad they didn't can him because of an illness ---

Well, pretty much. If his illness/condition prevents him from doing his job, then spare us all.WVAPPeer wrote: I know you aren't comparing a surgeon to a guy who talks football - he did play college football and coached college football - he has a role to play on the panel and that's what he does and has always done - so they should have fired him after he suffered a stroke? - is that what you mean? ---
I would differentiate Corso from Lou Holtz. I know certain posters on the MMB were not fans of Coach Holtz. But, his condition seemed to be more one of sounding all "nasally" as opposed to looking & saying & doing inane stuff live time. For instance, I heard Holtz predict So. Carolina over Georgia BEFORE the game, to Mark May's great merriment. Holtz was right.

Re: Herbs tried is still a tool
Corso and Holtz have completely different roles. Corso is an entertainer, nothing more, nothing less. His job is to offer a little insight and, more importantly, excite the crowd that is gathered for Gameday and he does that by being silly. I think both he and ESPN know EXACTLY what they are doing. Holtz offers a little more true analysis, not much, but a little. I'm sure when Corso can no longer do what he is there to do ESPN will replace him but I don''t see his medical condition keeping him from doing what they want him to do.AppAlum1 wrote:Well, pretty much. Re: Herbs tried is still a tool
I get that Corso is there for entertaining, still doesn't make it any easier to watch. I understand that a lot of people watch him for the entertainment part, and not for his insight, but that's not me, if Im going to watch a pregame sports show I want to hear intelligent insights, and give me points of view that maybe I haven't thought of, tough to take Corso seriously when they ask for his keys to winning the game and the best he can come up with is win the turnover battle, he just gives me the impression that he doesn't do the necessary prep work before the show airs.

I don't know if you have watched gameday all these years but Corso has done the same act forever - no better-no worse - only now he has trouble sometimes getting his words out - there are others on the panel who delve into analysis - that is not his role ---AppAlum1 wrote:Well, pretty much. Re: Herbs tried is still a tool
Corso has worked hard on his speech, and it's gotten better since last year. The previous two years were painful to watch, but he seems to have improved this year to the point that I don't think about his stroke every time he speaks.
I can't bash Holtz. Though he doesn't sound like him, Holtz is of the same build and mannerisms of my grandfather, who left this Earth about 15 years ago. I want to see Holtz as long as I can.
