need Winston Salem attorney

Unread post by 1ASU78 » Thu Dec 04, 2014 8:27 am

Does anyone have or can recommend the name of a good attorney in Winston Salem area that can handle a speeding ticket? My son received an early Christmas gift that wasn't on his list but one he asked for.

Thanks for any help.

You should be getting plenty of solicitations from attorneys any day now...........

This was helpful when my wife was settling her Dad's estate. Her family's long-time barrister passed away; and she had to start over from the top. Very helpful...

go see the DA and try to get it reduced to improper equipment. Pay court costs and skip the atty. Not sure if you can do a prayer for judgment anymore, but worth asking. Also check with your insurance agent to see if any of the things mentioned will have a better/worse effect on his insurance.

just went to court a few days ago with wife for a ticket. DA immediately knocked it down to 9 over. Asked and received a PFJ. If son has a clean record and the speed wasn't excessive save the $400 or so and just talk with the DA.

Use the PFJ as a last option, not a first option. If your son gets another speeding ticket in the next 3 years, this one will come back to haunt him and he'll have two on his record if you use the PFJ. If he was going less than 20 over the speed limit (but more than 10), spend the $400 and hire the lawyer and save the PFJ for if/when all other avenues are exhausted.

The other option is to go to court himself. I have done that before and the judge dropped it to 9 over, which did not hit my insurance and it didn't cost me anything but court costs.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are in Raleigh but may be worth the drive back. He would have to weigh against a day of lost pay.

Daughter got a ticket here in Wake Co. went to court on date saw the DA & ticket was reduced. She was out in 30 min.

First of all, stinks that the season is over.

Does anyone else wonder about the "faulty equipment" plea that lawyer's make on behalf of every speeding ticket they "defend"? Did it myself a few years ago. Lawyer called me and said "we won your case!" I asked, how did we win? Lawyer says, "faulty equipment". I have always questioned this, thinking, so it is okay in the state of NC to drive with a broken speed odemeter? The judge doesn't even want us to come back with proof that we fixed the "faulty equipment" How ridiculous is this? Bottom line, all a big racket and all the state wants is the court fees.

We don't have enough DA's (or police officers) to prosecute even 1% of the crimes and infractions that occur in this state. We don't have enough judges to try the cases either. So there's an automatic assumption that pretty much everything can be plead down. Since speeding tickets are particularly minor issues there is even more incentive for the state to plea them down. And equipment infraction is about the only thing lower than a speeding ticket.

I guess you can call it a racket for the state. But the only other option is a massive increase in the budget for DA's, police, and the court system.
