It helps that the owners of many of these soccer teams are billionaires from the Middle East. They can pump all the oil money into the team that they want, with nearly unlimited impunity. PSG was a waste of a team 10ish years ago (along with nearly every other French club), but are now riding high. This isn't the case for some of the teams in the list, but it certainly is for others.

Soccer benefits from worldwide popularity and appeal, so it should come as no surprise that the top three franchises, in terms of franchise value, are soccer clubs. These franchise pull in a tremendous amount of sponsorship and broadcasting revenues due to international appeal. Man U for example, brings in over one half a billion dollars a year from sponsorship revenues (about $300MM) and broadcasting revenues (almost $220MM). Man U is traded on the NYSE and a wealth of info on the franchise is available from SEC filings. It is interesting to see American business interests invest in English Premiership teams, with the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool, FC sharing common ownership, for example.

Agreed. To me the more shocking thing was seeing so many NFl teams on the list and very few European teams other than those 4 or 5 top teams. For instance I would have expected to see Chelsea, PSG, AC Milan, Dortmund, Liverpool and possibly Tottenham.
