Nashville?

Unread post by appstate24 » Thu Apr 21, 2016 6:13 am

The wife and I are doing a quick 3 day trip to Nashville for my birthday. I've been there before but it's been a while. Any suggestions on must do's or places to eat would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I did the same trip with my wife two years ago. It was the first trip where we actually didn't plan anything to do. There is so much to choose from we just winged it. It by far was one of our best trips as well.

Of the things we did, Ryman auditorium where the Grand Ole Opry started is a must. We hit up 3-4 breweries. Tennessee Brew Works and Jackalope were two of my favorite. We had Burgers at the Pharmacy it west Nashville, long wait, but we had cocktails and apps at the bar of holland house around the corner and the time flew by. If you're into country music the Hall of fame is pretty impressive.

We did the Grand Old Opry and I would recommend it. It probably depends on who is playing that night, but it was fun to see them put on this live radio show. Second Avenue has bars and that area is pedestrian friendly. The Parthenon is a nice place to sit in the grass in the shade and relax, or go inside the museum inside for a little non-country culture. As Guest said above, the Country Music Hall of Fame is well worthy doing. I think country music is fine, but I probably stop short of being a real fan, however Nashville is the place to enjoy it. If guitars are your thing a trip to Gruhns is a must. Enjoy your trip.

Spent several days recently on a business trip. Not much time for anything but food. Downtown is very walkable.
I'll second Puckett's Grocery. Jack's on Broadway for a quick and decent 'que lunch. Mike's Ice cream for sweets, also on Broadway.
Acme Feed and Seed has a great view of the river from the third level. Food and service just okay but the atmosphere and music great.

every 3 or 4 years a group of us head to Nashville to listen to up and coming artist at the many, many, bars. If you like cheap beer, and great music, you cant go wrong spending a few days there, but be warned, the bathrooms at the bars are disgusting, and a bit dangerous, a lot of them have "bathroom attendants", who basically strong arm you before they will let you leave, infact at one such establishment, 2 rather large black men, made a strong suggestion I wasn't leaving until I gave them a very nice tip, just be careful.

I'll second Mikes ice cream. You won't find any better ice cream.

If you are interested in vintage instruments, visit Gruhn's Guitars.

The Opryland Hotel is pretty awesome. Monell's is one of my favorite Nashville restaurants, though the Pharmacy is a good choice for a burger.
