RIP: NHL Legend Gordie Howe
Gordie Howe, a mainstay legend of the National Hockey League for 40+ years touching six decades and Four Stanley Cups, died yesterday. He was 88. This guy started for 25 straight years for the Detroit Red Wings. Unbelievable. On a slightly humorous note (hockey fans will appreciate this), a small part of Howe's legacy is the "Howe Hat Trick." This involved the absolutely unreal number of games in which he (1) scored one or more goals; (2) collected one or more assists; and (3) became involved in one or more fights. True story.

Unfortunately we lost the greatest hockey player ever today, but more importantly
the nicest man I have ever met. RIP Mr Hockey. (1/2)

One legend of my lifetime I never saw play (in person) - of course, there were only 6 teams in the early days ---

During the Detroit newspaper strike in the 90's we was selling his memoir to help the strikers. Class act right there.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Re: RIP: NHL Legend Gordie Howe
I saw Gordie play hundreds of times and met him a couple of times. Played one hole of golf with him. He presented me with my first sales award. He acted like I was the big deal. Most humble man I have ever met. About 25 years later I met him again in Raleigh at an Ice Caps game. I mentioned a name and he looked up at me and apologized for not remembering my name, but immediately said where we had met and the award he had given me. All before I could have said another word. Me just a regular guy and him, the greatest hockey player that ever lived made me feel like a king. Off the ice he was the kindest most gentle man you would ever meet. This world is less without him. All athletes and for that matter all men should look to him as a role model. Rest is peace Mr Hockey.
