Other fall sports
What is the actual status of our other fall sports and options?
Field Hockey is in the MAC which cancelled fall sports but all the talk has been on football.

Re: Other fall sports
All NCAA championships have been canceled for the fall, so I’d guess that while we’ve seen little in the way of official announcement, I’d say that pretty much wraps it up. I personally don’t see why golf can’t play, but apparently I’m an idiot.
Obviously there’s travel costs involved and such for these sports, and lack of football revenue can hurt for coverage of non-revenue sports, but from a strict ability to play standpoint, I’d think there are opportunities

Re: Other fall sports
I wonder how the cancellations affect practice allotments and such? I saw where Volleyball began official team practices yesterday...assuming other fall sports are doing that as well. Are they going to be limited to their usual # of "fall camp" practices and then have to shut it down once the season was supposed to start...or will they be able to pretty much keep practicing all the way through the non-existent season, for the sake of it?

I believe this is being left up to individual conferences. The SoCon said that schools could continue to do all activity through the fall, but they’re canceling games.HkyMtneer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 7:25 amI wonder how the cancellations affect practice allotments and such? Re: Other fall sports
No the NCAA has canceled all Championships for fall sports because more than 50% of D1 conferences have canceled the seasons.
At this point it is still in the hands of the conferences.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Cross Country cancelled their first home meet, but plan to host a home meet after Sept. 11.

Re: Other fall sports
I was surprised at the number of people I saw at XC meets last fall. When you have 10 teams competing, you really have 20 teams because both men and women compete at the same venue. So, if each team brings 7-10 runners, that's between 70 and 100 runners all bundled together at the start.
At McAlpine Park in Charlotte, there were 950 competitors at one meet hosted by Queens University. 500 men runners came to the line and then 450 women started after that. Huge dust cloud with thousands of fans along the course. Extreme heat and runners collapsing on course.

Re: Other fall sports
This is what prompted my original question actually as I read about the cancellation and the next meet of the season on the appstatesports.com website.stafford wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 11:28 amCross Country cancelled their first home meet, but plan to host a home meet after Sept. 11.

Re: Other fall sports
The remaining fall sports (other than football) remain in limbo. These sports could be delayed until spring when NCAA championships resume. If remaining conferences do play volleyball, soccer, etc. this fall, then good luck to its conference teams with arranging non-conference opponents with only approximately 25% of conferences still considering fall sports.

Re: Other fall sports
The problem with moving Cross Country to the Spring is that so many of the runners also run track and field. The problem with keeping it in the Fall is that so many conferences have cancelled that there are no meets to participate in.
